I wish that was the right Almeda. I've picked up some info about her on the web, but my great grandmother, Almeda was born about 1868. Thank you so much byron for trying to help.

Posted on: Guernsey Co. OH Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey/11478 Surname: Hammond, Lanning, King, Knight ------------------------- Most of my ancestors lived in Byesville as I was a young girl. I'm trying to do my family tree and have hit a brick wall. Jacob Hammond, my great grandfather was married to Almeda Lanning and they had four children, Walter (my grandfather), Della, John, and Goldie. I know that my great grandfather, Jacob died fairly young. I think in a mining accident, but I can't find any information as to when. I also cannot find information on when my great grandmother, Almeda died. I found her on the 1920 census and she was living alone with her son, John, but I can't find her on any census before or after. I don't know who her parents were or where she lived before Byesville. I would appreciate any help. I have information on Jacob's parents, but I'm not sure it's accurate, so I'm unsure as to his birth date or whether they really are his parents. My information is that he was from Perry County and his father's name was James and his mother's name was Mary Ann Goodlive. Answers to these questions would link everything together and I would appreciate any help. My grandfather, Walter Hammond, married Naomi King but I know nothing about her background except that her mother's name Katherine Knight.
Hi all, I got a HUGE response from my offer to do look-ups, so please be patient with me--I'll get to as many as I can as quick as I can. Also, I accidentally erased one. I have one from Carol Fleming, ==mwh, and a couple I have already responded to. If I haven't responded yet and if I didn't list your signature, then please resend. Sorry! And by the way, don't stop sending me requests just because I'm busy--send them and I'll get to them soon--I just needed to let everyone know that it may be a few days. I'm in law school, buying a house, and selling my car, and the only reason I've written as much as I have is that I have the flu today--so free day off! Take Care Everyone, Jessie
I've had several inquiries as to where to get the books that I have, so rather than responding individually, I thought it best to post it to the list so that everyone can have access to this information. First, the Index to Wills and Administrations 1812-1850 and Madison Twp. Cemeteries came from the Guernsey County Historical Society. You can access their webpage for order information--- http://www.usgennet.org/usa/oh/county/guernsey/gcgspub.html These ladies really do a terrific job and they're hurting for funds, so please don't hesitate to order a book--you won't be disappointed. I was so extremely pleased about the books I received--and I got them very quickly as well. Sarchet's the History of Guernsey County is a reprint that can be purchased by Closson Press. I couldn't find the book on their website or in their catalog, but if you e-mail them, I'm sure they could tell you if they have any available--I think mine cost $45.00 (a present from my Dad). Their e-mail address is: rclosson@nb.net Again, I was very happy with the book. However, I would be more than happy to do look-ups, because I bought the book and it doesn't have anything whatsoever about any of my Guernsey County ancestors. At least I feel like I got my Dad's money's worth if I do find information in it for others. Good Luck! Jessie
Sandy, In the book The History of Guernsey County by Sarchet (1911), I found the following on pg. 341: "At an accounting in 1876, there were the following persons aged 76 years and over residing within Wills Twp....P. Blazer." This is all I could find in my books. Good Luck! Hi Jessie, In the book The History of Guernsey County, Ohio by Sarchet (1911) I found the following on pg. 343: "Thomas Law was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, January 18, 1793, and, with his parents, came to Wayne Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Listers, Anybody ever hear of a place called Doughty Hollow in Guernsey? It was supposed to be named after an Indian Chief named Doughty. There is a Doughty Hollow near Kentuck, WV and possibly someone from that area moved to Guernsey and named a place after it. I'm trying to help out another researcher with ties to Monroe Township, Muskingum Co. From what she was led to believe, Doughty might be just across the county line from Monroe in Guernsey Co.
