    3. Posted on: Guernsey Co. OH Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey/11522 Surname: BARNES, STILES ------------------------- I am looking for information on "Barnes Mill" in Guernsey Co. My relatives used to own it and I wanted to get a little more information. What Township in Guernsey Co. is Barnes Mill? Here is what I have: According to a book called "Guernsey County Ohio/History/Genealogy/1979" states: "BARNES MILL" on Wills Creek, three miles below Cambridge, the ??? built a mill in 1828. From them it passed through several hands and in 1865, when it was purchase by two brothers, Francis and Abraham Barnes and since that time has been called "BARNES" MILL. In 1879 Francis bought his brother interest in the mill, and at the death of the brother in 1888, his two sons John W. and Francis A. became the owners. The original mill burned in 1834. It was rebuilt in 1840 and operated for 60 years. Here is the family that I am researching, and I am not absolutely positive that all the children are Abraham Barnes. I need to come to Guernsey and find a will or find a probate record, but it is a five hour drive. Children of ABRAHAM BARNES and SUSANNAH BARNES? are: 2. i. FRANCIS2 BARNES, b. 1827, Born in Virginia per 1850 cencus Brother or cousin of Rosanne; d. WFT Est. 1872-1919. 3. ii. ROSANNA BARNES, b. May 15, 1830, Washington Co. PA ( May have been Virginia then); d. January 19, 1914, Martin Co, IN, supposed to be in Beech Grove CemeteryHalbert Twp.. 4. iii. SUSANNAH BARNES, b. April 28, 1827; d. April 03, 1889. 5. iv. JACOB E. BARNES, b. 1819, Virginia; d. 1897, Guernsey County, Ohio(Pleasant Hill Cemetary)FAMILY TREE. v. ABRAHAM BARNES, b. Abt. 1824, VA per census. Owned Barnes Mill with Francis Barnes.. I am at a brick wall on this family!!! I would appreciate any input!!! Thank you for your help!! Rhonda Imran rimran@msn.com

    3. In response to your query, I remember reading somewhere that Warnestown was where Thomas Warne, and later his son Jonathan and his grandson Dewitt Clinton, lived. It was 337 acres in section 3 of Center Township. This is out current highway US 22 to the northeast of Cambridge and is now either in or on the edge of the Salt Fork Lake.
