    3. Posted on: Guernsey Co. OH Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Guernsey/11585 Surname: Gilmer, Gilmore, Downard, Freeburg, Kuhnemund ------------------------- Charles, Some of your information parallels information I have obtained on the Gilmer/Freeburg line, but I have some distinct variations. My Nancy Emmaline (Emma) Gilmer that married Axel Freeburg was the daughter of James Gilmer (Gilmore) and Sarah A. Downerd. James was born in 1820 in PA and died on March 6, 1868. He is buried in the Antrim United Presbyterian Cemetery located in Madison Township, Guernsey Co., Ohio. Sarah was born in 1821 in Ohio and died April 7, 1883 in Ohio. They had 13 children with Ohio births from ranging from 1841 through 1866. One of their children was a James C. Gilmer born in 1846, according to census records, that married a Sarah, born in 1844. My great-grandmother was their daughter, Mary Martha, born Sept. 5, 1851 in Ohio. She Married John D. Forbis on Sept. 3, 1870 in Bloomington, McLean Co., Illinois. All three of their children were born in Sangamon Co., Illinois. Between 1900 and 1906 they moved to Drummond, Garfield Co., Oklahoma. Around the same time, Axel & Em (Gilmer) Freeburg also moved to Drummond, Garfield Co., OK. Both are buried in Enid, Garfield Co., OK. They only had one daughter, Ethel, born in March 1895. Ethel Freeburg married Henry Kuhnemund on March 7, 1920. They had two daughters, Annabelle & Emaline. I think that your 1994 marriage record is for the marriage of my Emma Gilmer to Axel (not Alex) Freeburg. Some of my information on the children of James & Sarah (Downerd) Gilmer (Gilmore) comes only from the census records. Possibly my James Gilmer, age 31 in the 1880 census of Guernsey Co., Ohio, is the same as your James Gilmer that Mary Lee. When did your James Gilmer marry Mary Lee?

As we live in BC They definitely have them; my local LDS FHC has them. Perhaps you have to look under Ohio rather than locality. > Their son David (our grandfather)was a Volunteer in the Civil War, he > enlisted in Elkhart, Indiana. That's what my family did. Cambridge is on the old national road, & this was an area where canals and rivers, the early railroads, & this road made westward transportation very easy (for the time). Also, enlistment in neighboring states was common. I don't know why this happened.

    3. I am back on the list after a lengthy time away. My interest is the family of Baseleel (basel) Burton and Mary Marshall. They were married in Cambridge, Guernsay Co. Ohio 24 Aug 1822. I have not been successful in getting other information about this union, for one, LDS doesn't list census for Cambridge or Guernsay for 1830, 1840, 1850. As we live in BC Canada we don't have access to US National Archives to be able to read them there. Can anyone advise me on this subject? Their son David (our grandfather)was a Volunteer in the Civil War, he enlisted in Elkhart, Indiana. Again, can anyone suggest a reason for David having enlisted so far away from his birth place, was there some large migration of people from Cambridge, Ohio to Indiana. It seems like a long way between places. There has been some suggestion that Baseleel may have been employed with a Railroad, could this mean that they moved to different areas of the country? Jessie Burton, Penticton, BC Canada
