I have a Junia Preston, born October 21, 1754, in Ashford, Windham County, CT, to John Preston and Mary FORD. He married Artymesa/Artimesa/Artimesy Marshall (1758/60-18??). It appears that their "first" child, Zerepta Preston, was born April 23, 1779, in Torrington, CT. (The town clerk only wrote one Preston infant on this page, left blank for others, but none were listed.) Thus I have been unable to confirm the births of the other children born to this couple. Junia is NOT found again until the 1800 census in Huntington Township Luzerne County, PA, where Junia died in December 1822. Artymisa Preston married #2 - William FORD (1746-1823) on June 26, 1823, in Washington County, OH. I have been told that Artymisa married #3 - Amos Stackhouse (1758-1844) in Athens County, OH, on March 14, 1840. The line I am researching is "Preston" and I would enjoy hearing any additional information that you have on any of the above. My first priority would be to locate the birth records for Junia and Artimesa's children. Any suggestions? Thank you for contacting me. MaryLu in Minnesota

Maybe his fife, Elizabeth died there? In 1840 he was living in Homer Township, Athens County, OH. On March 14 of that year he married Mrs. Artymesa Ford, apparently so he could have a companion and a caregiver. But by the time the census taker came around that year, Mr. Preston-Ford-Stackhouse is gone and Amos was living with Joshua King. Does anyone know if Mr. & Mrs. King were related to Amos Stackhouse? Does anyone know when Amos & Artymesa/Artimesa/Artimesy died? MaryLu in Minnesota

Author: Betty <[email protected]> Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AWB.2ACE/2189.1 Message Board Post: I think you might be talking about the old Londonderry Presbyterian Cemetery that is now called Sunset View Cemetery. I was there for the first time in the middle of a huge rain storm last July, so didn't get to spend much time. I read somewhere that it was behind the Presbyterian Church that is now a Methodist Church, but I don't remember seeing a church when I was there. The gravestones in the old part of the cemetery are in very bad condition and very difficult to read (some impossible). I believe there was also a Friends Church in Londonderry Township during the middle 1800 time period, but do not know if it had a cemetery attached or not. I think the Friends church is a little further north than the town of Londonderry. My ggggrandparents are buried in Sunset View, as are some of their children (plus spouses) and grandchildren. My ancestor is shown as first buying land in Londonderry under a federal land patent in 1837, but I think it is possible they were living there for a few years before and purchased their farm privately. It is my impression that it was (and still is) a fairly small community and from what I've read for the period of 1830s through 1880s, I keep seeing the same family names over and over. There is a book available called Londonderry Township Cemeteries and Other Historical Data, Guernsey County, Ohio by Alice H. Morton. A cousin of mine was sent one page of this book from the Harrison County Genealogy Society (the page that has some of our family names listed). I am going to try to get a copy of the entire book and will be happy to share if and when I find it. I just looked at an 1855 Atlas that I have, and there is an A. Glasgow with a 180 acres right next to the property that I believe was my ggggrandfather's. In the 1870 Atlas, it is in the name of my ancestor's son in law and I think they bought the property after my ggggrandfather died in 1844. An 1870 Atlas still shows the property in the name of A. Glasgow. If I'm reading this map correctly, it looks to me as if the Sunset View Cemetery is on property that belonged to the Glasgow's or is right next to it. Betty

    2. Dear Listers, Does anyone from Cambridge remember the Red Star Bus Company which operated in Cambridge back in the 1920s-30s? A great-great uncle, Walter Thomas owned that bus company, and I would like to find any information about it. If anyone has access to an old Cambridge City directory from that time period, could you please do a "look-up" and see what the exact name of the company was? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help, Andy Miller, Columbus, Ohio

    3. Regarding your second question on 1860 census, column 13 - why were the numbers encased in parentheses? I can't say for sure, but I would guess this just happened to be the style of R. (Robert) Savage, the enumerator and Assistant Marshal (who later became a state senator). He used the same style in column 12 and also for his enumerations in Spencer Twp. He also seemed to use it consistently from page to page. In some of the other townships I checked, enumerators did not use parentheses. Tom Bay, Powell, OH
