Hi. I am new to this list and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Villate Brown McKitrick and I currently live in Terre Haute, IN. My primary genealogy interest in Guernsey County is in the family and descendants of William Martin Lawyer, Sr., who was born in Pennsylvania and died in Murphysboro, IL, but who lived most of his life in Center, Knox Township, and Cambridge. His children and grandchildren also lived in those areas, for the most part, but of course he now has descendants all over the country. My great-aunt Mary Alice Lawyer Hyatt did a great deal of research on the family which I would be happy to share with other researchers, and I would also like to update information on any descendants who are still living.
Forwarded message. Please reply to Jamie at <[email protected]>. -------------------------------------- Date: Thursday, April 7, 2005 5:19 AM MDT Hello, I received a manuscript of "The Family of John and Catherine (Hammersley) Marlatt" book awhile back, and am willing to do some lookups in it. There is no index to this manuscript. These families roamed around in Guernsey and Coshocton counties mostly. If you think you might be related to John and Catherine Marlatt.......please email me off list, with Marlatt in the subject line. I do not want to fill up the mailing list. jamie

My great grandfather was no longer in Guernsey Co in 1900, so I am assuming he did not remain as president. Thanks for any information! Bonnie

It helps to connect Jane Bigger to Abraham Pollock. I don't think there is a connection with the Monroe or Washington twp Pollock family but I could be wrong. I recently came upon a notice of a 60th wedding anniv. for Samuel and Louisa Pollock which mentions his sisters Margaret Speer (Margaret Pollock m William Speer 1847, Muskingum Co.) and Rachel Watson (Rachel M Pollock m David Watson 1851 Muskingum Co.) My Husband's direct line comes from John Pollock who married Margaret Hunter (1824 - 1843) in Muskingum Co but they lived in Guernsey Co until abt 1844. Still trying to find the link that definately connects John (b 1796 PA) and Abraham (b1792 PA). They did witness each others land deeds but haven't found the "smoking gun" so still not sure if they were brothers or cousins.

Malachi John JONES (born between 1750 and 1765). Second Generation 2. Enoch JONES Jr. (Enoch-1) was born about 1764 in Wales.1 He died on 10 May 1844 in maybe Peoria IL or Guernsey Co, OH. Enoch JONES Jr. and Nancy ADDY were married about 1790. We find Jehu Jones listed on same page as Enoch Jones, on p. 474 of 1830 census, Knox township, Guernsey Co., Ohio. Jehu, head: Males:20-30: 1(jehu); 5-10:1 (maybe John); less than 5 yr old:2 (maybe Jehu jr and Isaac?) for females: age 30-40: 1 (likely anna); 5-10: 1 (likely Rebecca) then further down: Enoch, head: male: 60-70:1 (Enoch); 20-30: 1 (maybe James); age 5-10: 2 (maybe Johna and Wm) for females: age 50-60: 1 (Nancy Addy): 20-30: 2 (likely Eliza and charlotte). John JONES (born about 1814). 11 viii. William JONES was born after 1814. {one of the Maples thought this.} {placement of a William Jones is in controversy: the date of birth is also. the bk by ruth stafford maple says it was birthyr of 1798 , and that he was son of Enoch jr and Nancy Addy, BUT another jones researcher thought that this WM jones born 1798 was son of Enoch's brother Malachi John Jones and wife martha Addy .} so, he is 'in despute.' Does anyone have proof of a third child to the Enoch SR and jane boggs family??someone thought there was a dau. named Mary.. sources??? 3. Dudley." [Transcribed on March 25, 2005 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.] Samuel DUDLEY, son of Henry and Elizabeth DUDLEY, was born in Senecaville, Guernsey County, Ohio, August 10, 1838, and departed this life in the early morning of September 11, 1913. He was aged seventy-five years, one month and one day. He came to Indiana in 1861, settling in Beech Creek Township where he lived a useful and honorable life, and where he died surrounded by his family and friends. In 1862 he enlisted in the service of his country and served for more than two years in the Civil War when he was forced to leave because of a severe wound received at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. On December 28, 1865, he was married to Mary Elizabeth SECREST, and to this union was born six children, one son and five daughters, all living. They are Mrs. A. w. OGG, of Lewiston, Montana; Mrs. W. I. BROWN, Worthington; Mrs. T. O. HUDSON, Hendricksville; Mrs. J. N CHRISTY, Romona; Mrs. William M. HARRAH, Hendricksville, and Henry S. DUDLEY, Bloomington. He was a strong, industrious man of determined will power and robust constitution. He had been in failing health for many months, and had been quite poorly for two months, being confine to his room and most of the time was bedfast. But in all this time he exemplified a fortitude and patience that was remarkable. He was an affectionate husband and father, a loyal churchman, a true member of the Masonic order, a good neighbor and a kind friend. He will be missed in the home and in the community, but his faith and testimony leave a halo of light and hope to beckon us on, thought tears may fall and hearts be sad. K. -- With grateful hearts we thank our neighbors and friends for their kindness and assistance during the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father; the Masons for their kindness and assistance, and the donors of floral tributes; also we especially thank Oliver K. HARRIS for his kindness in addition to his medical assistance. MRS. MARY DUDLEY AND FAMILY. -- Link to the Obituary of his daughter, Anna R.
