Seeking any information about my family, named "Long" who lived in the Quaker City area (formally known as Millwood), during the 1800's. My name is George Long of Dayton, Ohio and I believe my grandfather was born near Quaker City/Cambridge.................. His name was also George Long, and is said to have sisters named Emma, Stella and May. I believe their father's name was Jonah K. Long (b.1846) to his father named George Long (b.1818). George Long (b.1818) was a farmer in Quaker City, Ohio Also I have an Aunt who lived in Cambridge, Ohio believed to be named Madeline Miller. I believe that Madeline had a daughter who would be my 1st cousin. Any information on my ancestry is most appreciated. Sincerely, George Long __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

Hi! I was wondering if anyone might have information on the DeLaRue family. Evidently there has been a sampler found in Wales that was done by a RACHEL DE LA RUE, it is dated 1828 and says that she was 14 at the time of completion of the sampler. Making her birth year some time around 1814. I have a DeLaRue connection but it is with a James Bichard, and my Rachel DeLaRue was born long before the child who did the sampler. I am trying to find out if his may have a connection to my family or not. Hate to pass something like this up if it does "belong" in the family. Please let me know if you can provide any information. Thank you! Cynthia Keives

Hi, Can anyone help me with this families? I am trying to connect Elizabeth Ann (Sinclair) Francis with her parents. I suspect that her parents are Thomas Sinclair and Margaret Duncan, but need proof. Samuel Francis and Elizabeth Ann (Sinclair) Francis are my G-Grandparents. I an including what I have on the family and why I think that they connected. In the 1850 Census for Muskingum Co., there is a Samual Sinclair, age 6 with Samual and Elizabeth Francis. Samuel Sinclair is almost to old to be Elizabeth Sinclair son. In the 1860 US Census for Clay Twp., Adair Co., Mo. Samuel and Elizabeth Francis are living with their children and there is no Samuel Sinclair living with them. This makes me think that Samuel Sinclair is not Elizabeths son, but a brother. In the 1860 US Census, there is a Samuel Sinclair, age 14, in Cumberland Spencer Twp., Guernsey Co., Ohio with a Thomas Sinclair, age 59, in the home of George Stockwell and his family. I am unable to find either Samuel Sinclair, Thomas Sinclair or George Stockwell after that in the census. As Samuel Sinclair is only 2 years differents in age, I think that they are the same person. There is a Thomas Sinclair who married a Margaret Duncan in Belmont Co., Ohio on 21 March 1823. Is Elizabeth Ann Sinclair b. 26 Nov. 1826 their daughter?. She married Samuel Francis in 1846 in Muskingum Co., Ohio. On the 1860 US Census for Spencer Twp., Guerney Co., Ohio next to the George Stockwell family that has Thomas and Samuel Sinclair living with them, is a John R. Duncan. Spencer Twp, Guernsey Co., Ohio and Salt Creek Twp., Muskingum Co., Ohio are just a few miles apart. On the east side of Guernsey Co., is Belmont Co., Ohio. Now Samuel and Elizabeth [Sinclair] Francis named their first child, Cynthia [Samuel Francis mothers name], their second child, Thomas James [James is Samuel Francis fathers name], and their third child Margaret. Following the name pattern, is Thomas Sinclair and Margaret Duncan, Elizabeth Ann Sinclair parents? I think that they are, but need more proof then what I have. Can anyone help me with the connection? Thank you for any information that I get. Richard Swank in So. California

When I was growing up in Byesville, Oh. I knew of a family by the name of Sills. I can't remember his first name but everyone called him Bud Sills. I noticed in one place in the letter, it stated that Mrs. Smith wasn't to come to Byesville until she was in better health. Was that a mistype? I thought it was meant to be, Mrs. Sills. I think there is a Gary Sills that use to be in a band and might have been Bud Sills son. Very interesting to read stories from the town where I was raised. Betty W of Guernsey CO. OH.

April 14, 1915 Freeport, Harrison Co., OH MRS. JENNIE CRAAMBLETT, wife of Joseph Cramblett, living near Birmingham, Guernsey county, committed suicide Friday afternoon by hanging herself in an out-building near her home. Mrs. Cramblett had been in ill health for some time and had been in the asylum but was brought home last fall, as her condition showed considerable improvement. Recently she became worse and arrangements were being made to again take her to an institution for treatment. It was feared that she was contemplating self destruction and she was therefore kept under close observation. Friday afternoon Mr. Cramblett left his wife for a short time to go to a field near the house to do a little plowing. Toward evening, he returned and a grandson who makes his home with the Crambletts reported to his grandfather that his grandmother was not in the house. Mr. Cramblett went into the building and after a through search failing to find his wife, with the assistance of the grandson, began to search the premises. The body of the wife was found hanging on a rope fastened to a rafter in the roof of an outbuilding. Neighbors were notified and with their assistance the body was cut down and removed to the house. She was about 66 years of age. She is survived by her husband and one son HERMAN BEAN ; together with one brother, ELIJAH BEAN, and two sisters, MRS. EMILY MORRISON of Guernsey county and MRS. WAYBLE, living in the northern part of the state. She was the daughter of HARVEY BEAN, deceased. Funeral services were held Sunday at Pleasant Hill Church followed by interrment in the Church cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. Wilson of Peoli, assisted by Rev. King of Winterset. ***

June 23, 1915 Freeport, Harrison Co., OH The police in two cities have been asked to locate MRS. WINNIE F. SILLS, 21 years old, wife of J. J. SILLS, of Byesville, who purchased a ticket for Cambridge and left Troy, N.Y., two weeks ago to join her husband. Since that time she has not been heard from. It is known that she purchased a ticket and left Troy, but further than that her husband, who anxiously awaits her coming at the little house in Byesville, knows nothing. The police in Cambridge were notified, likewise the police department of Troy, and they were advised to take the matter up with the railroad company immediately. Both the B & O and Pennsylvania companies in Cambridge have been told of the disappearance and efforts to locate the woman from this end are under way. An investigation at the Cambridge & Byesville depots did not show that any baggage had been checked by Mrs. Sills to her destination. The husband is quietly awaiting the result of the work of the police and while hoping against hope, fears that something has happened to his wife while enroute. Mr. Sills was formerly in the U. S. Navy and was married in Troy three years ago. His wife's maiden name was WINNIE DAVIS. He left the Navy Aug. 18, 1914 and after spending considerable time with his wife in Troy, came to Byesville, where he secured employment in the glass factory. Mrs. Smith had been in poor health, and it was not until she improved that they thought it best for her to come to Byesville. She notified her husband that she would leave soon, and since that expected her every day. Last Tuesday he recieved a letter from Mrs. Nellie Bailey of Troy, with whom his wife lived, asking if Mrs. Sills had reached her destination and stating that she left Troy two weeks ago Wednesday. *** Courtesy post - not related

I've been trying to make the connection between Jacob Shipman (Jr.!) and his parents for a while now, and getting nowhere. I wondered if the Jacob Shipman of Lycoming Co. were related to my Jacob but could find nothing to prove it. With the obituary information, it falls into place! I found a message, don't remember whether it was on Ancestry.com, Rootsweb.com, or one of the Genforum message boards at Genealogy.com, by a Smith descendant. Evidently Jacob Shipman Jr.'s first wife (the mother of his children) died and Jacob remarried, to a woman named Mrs. Mary Smith (she was a widow with children near in age to Jacob's); that is the Mary who is listed in Jacob's household in the 1850 census in Guernsey Co. I am guessing that his first wife was still alive in 1830 because there are only 4 children listed in Jacob's household at the time, which accounts for John and his three full siblings, but not the (Smith) step-children. And of course, by 1840, most of the children and steps were grown and on their own, so I haven't been able to confirm this information. Jacob Shipman Jr. and his first wife (possibly Mary Bonnell, according to information sent me from the book The Shipman Family in America, and I haven't seen the whole book yet!) had four children: Jane Shipman, born between 1810-1815 Margaret Shipman, born 3 Mar 1813 Lewis Shipman, born 1817 John Shipman, born 1818. I haven't located any further information on Jane yet. Margaret married Barnett William Fordyce. I know of at least one child in this family, John Shipman Fordyce, born 15 Feb 1837 in Guernsey Co. Lewis Shipman married Mary Jane (Polly?) Gillet, and they had 11 children: Elizabeth M., George M., John, William B., Phoeba A., Margaret, Jacob, Mary J., Jedediah, Samuel L, and Flora J. Shipman, spaced fairly regularly between 1840 and 1865. John Shipman married Hannah Maria Gillet (sister of Lewis' wife). They had four children that I know of: Martha A., Mary Elizabeth, Hannah Maria, and Alma A. I don't have more on Martha at this time, except that she was born around 1852. Mary Elizabeth, born 24 Mar 1855 in Winterset, Madison Twp., Guernsey Co., Ohio; on 12 Apr 1874, she married George Walter Reelhorn, a dentist. They had 8 children, moved to Licking County, Ohio, settled in the Kirkersville area. The children were Etta May (Emch), John Shipman, Samuel Ray, Charles Wesley, Hattie Lee (White), Calla Maria (Lucas), Nellie Elma (Handshy), and Mary Clare (Elrod). Mary Elizabeth died 2 Jun 1927 and is buried in the Kirkersville Cemetery. Hannah Maria, born 7 Jun 1859, married Asberry Lee Beal. Their children were Tirzah Rachael (McCormick), Waldo H., Jennie V. (Hollingsworth), and Clyde Sparks Beal. Alma A., born about 1862, married Marion Fayette McConnell. Their children were Laura (Krebs) and Clyde Edgar McConnell. On the next generation, I have mostly information on the descendants of George Walter and Mary Elizabeth Shipman Reelhorn, although I have picked up some information on Hannah and Alma's grandchildren from census records, etc. Aunt Ettie married Will Emch and had no children. Uncle John married Minnie Florence Tunison, and their children were Mary Gladys, Nell Marie, Thelma Clare, Walter Tunison, Ruth Elizabeth, Dorothea Helen, and John Richard Reelhorn. (Dates available, e-mail me for details, we're getting to the generation where there are still living descendants, and I'm trying to respect their privacy.) Uncle Ray married Minnie Grace Guyton, and their children were Florence, Mildred, and Grace Reelhorn. Uncle Charlie married Armetta Arzula Lawyer, and their son was Charles Eugene Reelhorn. Aunt Hattie married Bert White and their children were William Walter and Letha White. Letha died of consumption around age 19. Callie was my great-grandmother. She married Odie Dan Lucas in 1909. Their oldest daughter, my grandmother Kathryn, is still living, age 95. Her sisters, Mildred (Case) and Wanda Lee (Pickering) have both passed on. Aunt Nellie married Harry Handshy, and their daughter ! was Mary Olive Handshy. Aunt Clare married Ezekiel Elrod (a Methodist Minister), and they had four children: William W., Margaret E. (Betty), Dorothy M., and Mary Alice Elrod. I'll be happy to give you additional details and further generations. E-mail me! Thank you again for your help! --Kathryn
