Glad to find this message board. I am working on the line of James L. Mills who married Philomena Shaffer, dau. of Jacob Shaffer and Eliza Nolan. I have not found James' parents but did find Squire Mills in same general area, same time frame (1850, 1860, etc. censuses). I've found several James Mills round about but no proof if one is mine. Re. Herrings, other lines: mostly Perry, Allen, Auglaize counties. I'd really like to hear from others/any one working on these surnames either in Guernsey county or counties near, since others could be related. Hope to hear from you & thanks in advance for any help you can give & for your time. Pavla Chandler

You all have been so great trying to find Sarah for me, have one more little problem. Am I pushing my luck here? My GGrandfather John Law, William's son may have been married twice before he married my GGrandmother. I know of the one marriage to an Elizabeth (Jane) McCarroll but his will mentions a son Horace about whom I can find nothing. Have a feeling Horace came from another marriage. She may have died in child birth. The 1850 shows John still at home, but missing from the 1860. The 1870 census in Kentucky shows his youngest child born in 1866(abt). Horace is not listed- but will mentions him in Kansas city. Have a feeling marriage must have been in 1850's. Is there anyway to check on marriages for a John Law around these years? Again, thanks for any help. Hate to be such a pest. Between Sarah and Horace, am going a wee bit crazy. Nancy

My Name is George Edward Long and I am from Dayton, Ohio.... I am 53 years old. I recently started searching for my ancestry under the surname "Long" and I knew we had family history in Guernsey County. Here is what I think is my family lineage...................... A George Long (my great great grand father) from Millwood Twp. (now Quaker city) who was born about 1818..................... He had a son in about 1846 named Jonah K Long (my great grand father). Jonah had three daughters................ Emma, Stella, and May and a son named George Long (my grand father)......................not sure about their birthdates but thinking they are near to 1870's and 1880's. Emma married a man with the surname "Borton" and they had a daughter named Joyce who married a man named Paul Sites............ Paul and Joyce lived in Zanesville. George Long (my grand father, Emma's brother) had a daughter named Madeline (I was told she married a Miller) and I know she was living in Cambridge around 1960 just North a few blocks from downtown Cambridge. She had a daughter, but I do not know her birthdate or name. My grand father George Long was married to a woman named Grace, besides Madeline, they also had 3 sons, Frank (my father, born 1913 in Cambridge I was told, but also was told he was born in Christopher, IL), John and Chuck. Frank and John both started families and lived in Dayton, Ohio. I have little history on Chuck. I was told that my grand father George Long always wore a straw hat and he and his ancestors were of Quaker descent. My grand mother Grace died while giving childbirth to my Uncle Chuck about 1921 in Christopher, IL I am searching for anyone who may be a relative and who has knowledge of the "Long" family history. I suspect that some of the "Long's" living in the Quaker City/Cambridge area may be descendants of my great great grand father George Long. My e-mail address is [email protected] and [email protected] ................... I also chat on Yahoo sometimes as geo_l_1952 Thanks for any information you may be able to share with me!..................... Zenia is spelled Xenia in Green County, Ohio if that is where your ancestors are buried. I used to live in Green County in Fairborn. Hope this helps. Philla, In the same book, History of Noble County, pg 335, there is a paragraph as follows; "Before Bates mill was erected the people of the township depended mainly for their flour and meal upon two horse mills, owned respectively by Elisha Fogle and Thomas Barry, and situated only a short distance apart, in the southwestern part of the township." Now the township is Center Co., Noble Co., Ohio, but was Morgan Co., before 1851 when Noble Co., was formed. I have a Elisha Fogle that is a brother to Hannah Fogle that married the James Barry. There older sister Elizabeth Fogle married Thomas Wiley, which are my 2ed Great Grandparents. In the Fogle Cemetery listing there is a Fogle, Sarah (Barry) (1826-1868 Eynon) w/o Jacob. I have in my data base a Jacob Fogle who married a Sarah Wells. They had 3 children by my data. Anna, Esau and William, which are all buried in the Fogle Cemetery, and after the names are son or daughter of Jacob and Sarah. I got the Wells name from World Family Tree, Vol. 14, # 3181, so do not have proof of Sarah last name. Jacob Fogle in not listed as buried in the Fogle Cem. In the Barry's Ridge Cemetery in Center Township, there is a Thomas W. Barry died 1 March 1897, ae 79y. 7m. , and a John C. Barry, s/o T. W. and E., 27 Oct 1870 Ae 24. 4. 21. In the same Cemetery, there are 13 Fogles buried there. My fathers family came from Noble Co., Ohio, so I have a lot of people in Noble Co., Ohio. I hope that this will help you. Richard,,, I'm not sure how we are related.... I have also found the James Barry married to Hannah Fogle... but I can't seem to find the link..... I Benjamin's probate there was a sale that his wife held to pay off of the bills ... on the list James Barry bought several things...(not sure if this is your James or if there was a son of Benj named James) also listed is Robert which is a son (my line) a Rufus Fogle is on the list... and several other names ( which may be daughters who had married) so I wouldn't know their last names since I really don't know their names...... In the Fogle cemetry there is listed an infant 1870 Son of B & S I believe this may be Benjamin F & Sarah Barry... He was a son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Moffolt Barry so this infant would have been Benjamin's grandson..... As you can see there a LOT of holes that I am having trouble filling in... Then there is the question :History of Noble County, pg 335-36 "In the southwestern part of the township were the following early settlers: Ambrose Merry, David Devolld, Thomas and Benjamin Barry." Again, more questions, Were Thomas & Benjamin brothers?????? Benjamin F Barry did marry Sarah Devolld.... so this is probably the right Benj Barry.... but any help in linking Fogles with Barrys would greatly be appreciated... Philla Barry Kirkpatrick
Philla, My Fogle family are the ones that are buried in the Fogle Cemetery. In my data base I have a Hannah Fogle who married a James Barry in Morgan Co., Ohio on 20 September 1821. James Barry was born 1793 in Maryland by my records. They had a daughter Harriett Barry born Dec. 6, 1822 in Belmont Co., Ohio. I have no other information on James Barry. I do not know if this will help you, but thought that I would send it to you. Seeing that your Benjamin Barry is buried in Fogle Cemetery, do you have any connection between your Benjamin Barry and the Fogle family? Watch out - there is also a Benjamin Berry, roughly same age, who lived in Madison & Wills Twp and was a neighbor to the Helms, Carters, Saltsgavers &c (I remember this name from some peripheral involvement in a Helm probate case).

Noble County was formed 1851 March 11, so any government documents created before that time are in Guernsey County (Cambridge), anything from then on should be in Noble County (Caldwell). You will want to check both.
