Concerning Elisabeth Carder, Cherokee, NC or VA in 1850 Census. What did they list as her color? Did the Census taker pick up on the Native American? I am wondering because of other notations I have noticed in the Xenia records over the years. We have a Downey family of African Americans in that period in Xenia City with similar family names of ours.
