Still seeking information on family of John Malin Carder(Carter). John was born in Clarksburg, Harrison Co., Va., now W. Va. in Oct. 1822 Have been unable to find out who is father was & this drives me crazy. On the 1850 Greene Co. census, his mother is listed as Elisabeth., age 47, born Va. Our oral family history says that she ws a full-blooded Cherokee from North Carolina so I am not sure which is true, Va. or N.C. On the 1850 census is also listed 3 of John's siblings: Joseph, born about 1829 in Va., Stephen, born about 1838 in Ohio, Nancy A., born about 1842 in Ohio. This puts the family as moving to Ohio between the late 1820's & late 1830's. On this census is also John's second wife, Caroline Morris born about 1830 in Va. & Amanda Morris, born about 1832 in Va. Amanda ws probably her sister. They lived in Xenia Township. John married 3 times in Xenia. First to Elizabeth Steen in 1847, then to Caroline Morris in 1849. They both died young. He married Eliza Jane Dobbins in 1855 & they were married 56 years when he died. I have also found in Xenia during the same time frame, an Adeline Carder who married Thomas Steen in 1847, a Susan Carder who married Moses Steen in 1848. Possibly Elizabeth Steen's brothers? I also have a Mary Ann Dobbins who lived in Xenia & was only 2 years younger than Eliza Jane. The Carder, Steen & Dobbins families seem to intertwine. I would like to find whatever I can on them. John M. & Eliza (Dobbins) Carder moved to Hardin, then Logan Co. Their children lived in these 2 counties as adults. My big questions are who were John m. Carder & Eliza J. Dobbins' parents & siblings. I would appreciate anything anyone finds on Carder/Carter, Steen (Steene, Stein ), & Dobbins. Thanks. Deb Carder
