THIS INFORMATION WAS TAKEN FROM A BOOK AT THE GREEN COUNTY LIBRARY CALLED: REMINSCENCES - PAXON - AND JAMESTOWN CYCLONE FRIDAY MARCH 18, 1927 GREENE COUNTY, OHIO AGED WOMAN DIES FRIDAY Mrs. Hill CARPENTER, long resident of Bowersville Neighborhood, passes away. On Friday evening at 8:45 o'clock, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth CARPENTER passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel COWAN, in Bowersville, after an illness of 3 weeks suffering from congestion of the lungs and heart trouble. She was the daughter of Samuel and Nancy Jane SANDER SMITH, who was born near Jamestown, in the old farm on the Washington Pike. She was united in marriage on February 20th, 1862 to Thomas Hill CARPENTER, and later moved to the CARPENTER farm near Bowersville, where she resided until 4 years ago when she went to make her home with her daughter. Her husband preceded her in death 6 years ago. Mrs. CARPENTER is survived by 5 children, 3 having passed to the great beyond. A son, Samuel CARPENTER, and 4 daughters, Mrs. Samuel COWAN, Mrs. Minnie HERNDERSON, of Bowersville, Mrs. Anna STEPHEN, of near Deleware, and Mrs. Alla WILKINSON of near Xenia, and 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Rev. J. Lewis SMITH, of Oakland, California, and a half brother, Cil SMITH of Landover, Maryland, and a number of nephews and nieces. Mrs. CARPENTER was 84 years of age. She united with Caesers Creek Baptist Church when quite a young girl. Funeral services was held at M.E. Church in Bowersville Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by the pastor Rev. E.R. GRIGSBY.
