David1 Chambers was born in Ireland, and died in Virginia. He married Eliza ???. She was born in Scotland, and died in Ohio. Ohio: The father of our subject was William Chambers, who was born in Ireland near the coast, and was the son of David Chambers, also a native of that country. Grandfather Chambers emigrated to America with his family at an early date, and located in Virginia, where he spent the remaining years of his life. His wife, Eliza, a native of Scotland, removed, after the death of her husband, to Ohio, and died there in the faith of the Presbyterian Church. Their son William, the father of our subject, was about twelve years old when his parents came to the United States. He accompanied his mother to this state, and they settled on a rented farm in Montgomery County. When reaching man's estate he purchased one hundred acres of land from which he opened up a good farm, that which is now occupied by his son Robert. He was a teamster in the army during the War of 1812. Later he resumed farming, and died in 1848, at the age of sixty years. Politically he was a sound Democrat. Mrs. Elizabeth (Kirkwood) Chambers, the mother of our subject, was a native of Virginia, born and reared near the famous Natural Bridge. Her father, Robert Kirkwood, was also a native of the Old Dominion, whence he emigrated to Ohio, and located near the present site of the court house in the city of Dayton, where he spent the closing years of his life. He was a man of decided ideas, and prided himself on his Scotch-Irish ancestry. The mother of our subject died at the old homestead in 1850. There were born to her and her husband a family of seven children, the eldest of whom, a daughter, Jane, married John D. C. Campbell, and is living in Huntington County, Ind.; David died when about sixty years old; Eliza is living in Montgomery County; Mary, Mrs. Talley, is a resident of Wayne Township; Margaret died when about forty-six years old; Robert, our subject, was the sixth child; Sarah died in Huntington County, Ind. Snyder June 16, 1864 in Bath Twp., Greene Co., Ohio; born Abt. 1838 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania; died 1870. He married (2) Susan Bodkin 1878. Generation No. 3 5. James Galloway3 Barton (Anne2 Chambers, David1) was born March 09, 1807 in Greene Co., Ohio, and died July 30, 1851 in Little York, Warren Co., Illinois. He married (1) Nancy Maley McCoy September 15, 1831 in Xenia, Greene Co., Ohio, daughter of William McCoy and Mary Maley. She was born June 17, 1812 in Tyler Co., West Virginia, and died September 1840 in Little York, Warren Co., Illinois. He married (2) Jane Lindsay Paxton November 24, 1842 in Little York, Warren Co., Illinois, daughter of William Paxton and Margaret Struthers. She was born February 14, 1818 in Greene Co., Ohio, and died Aft. 1880. Notes for James Galloway Barton: James Galloway Barton is named for James Galloway, one of the original settlers of Mad River Twp., Clark Co., Ohio. James Galloway and Thomas Barton came to Clark Co., sometime prior to 1798. Mr. Galloway by way of Pennsylvania and Kentucky. James Galloway was born in 1750 in Pennsyvania and died 1838 in Clark Co. He married Rebecca Junkin. Jane is found in the 1860 Illinois census, Warren county, Hale township. She is age 40 with $2250 in real estate and $790 in property. Living with her are Peter and William Phillips, most likely the children of their neighbors in 1850 Peter B. Phillips, born in Ohio and died 27 April 1855 at 29 years, 9 months and 25 days and buried in the Sugar Tree Grove Cemetery with his wife Drucilla A. M. who died 24 July 1855 at 32 years, 10 months and three days. They had another daughter Almarina H. but she is not with the family. Jane's children are living in 1870 in Hale township without her. However, she has a listing in the 1877 Past and Present of Warren county, it calls her a widow with 90 acres of land in Hale township and a United Presbyterian. Single Member 36th Illinois Infantry Regiment. Wounded but survived. William is found in the 1850 Illinois census, Warren county. He is age 15 and in school. William M. is found in the 1860 Illinois census, Warren county, Hale township. He is a farmer, age 25. His obituary is in the Monmouth Review William M. Barton, who was born on a farm near where he passed away, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. J. Clark, near Eleanor 25 March 1906 aged about 70 years. he had a light stroke of paralysis a few weeks earlier and had been improving but that afternoon while resting on a sofa, he was seized with a stroke which resulted in sudden death. He was unmarried. His funeral was held at the Eleanor United Presbyterian church and conducted by Reverend J. E. Kerr with burial in the Sugar Tree Grove cemetery.
