    3. I would be willing to check dates on tombstones if I had a clue where he was after 1860. I will check the 1860 census and hopeful I can fine how many and who was born by then, know where he was born and etc. I only know E.B.Martin and found him on the 1860 census at Ancestry.com. I do know he married Rachael Vail, not where, and had a daughter Mary E. I know that in the early years they could register the birth but it wasn't mandatory. I was so lucky in Clark Co. to find so many birth records. Tootsie At home births often didn't get registered even later years. 2. Although Greene County, Ohio began keeping records of birth and death in 1869, many did not get recorded. There are many I have been looking for and have not found. I have been forced to revert to the dates on tombstones which are many times not correct but it at least gives you an idea.

    2. Don B. Dale
    3. My third great grandfather was a Doctor in Greene County (Dr. Edward Tyndal Dale). In reality he attended Antioch college taught awhile in Yellowsprings, went to Arkansas as Supt of Education before 1866 and in practicality graduated from medical school in NY and moved to Arkansas - yet his third son, like the first two, was born in Greene county. The first born in 1868 died and was buried in Greene county, the second my 2ggf, was born 9-5-1869 and later also practiced as a doctor in Yellowsprings until 1901 and was the youngest Grand Master of the Blue Lodge there in history (Dr. Joseph Edward Dale I). The third son, William E. Dale was born at home (Joseph McIntosh's home-ET's wife's uncle) 8-27-1880 and was delivered by his father. I've never found any records of these births. Dr. JE Dale I delivered both his son, my grandfather Edward Ballard Dale 8-25-1894 at home in Greene County as well as my father, his grandson, 21 years later. Until my father there wasn't really a requirement to make a record other than maybe an announcement in the paper. You may find a BIBLE record if anything was donated to the Library via family, etc. Other than that, I do not have a clue as to where you could go. Hope this helps you. 3. I have found E.B. Martin on the 1860 census on Ancestry.com in Miami Twp. Greene Co. My ggrandmother Mary E. was b. 1852 and my ggrandmother's name was Rachel. I don't know how many of if there was siblings. Now if he was there shouldn't there be some record of this family in Greene Co.? Are there death records in this time period? Tootsie Shoemaker.

This is what the census had. 1850 census Washington twp., Warren co., Ohio - Jonah Vandervort, age 60, farmer real estate value $3,600, born Virginia with wife Elizabeth age 54, born Virginia children Harriet age 18 born Ohio, Newton age 16, born Ohio, Minerva age 14 born Ohio, and a looks like Sarah E. 3. Diane I'm pretty sure that no descendents of William Reed and Hannah Musgrove (who owned the farm in the website) arrived in Ohio before about 1855-1860. However, it is possible that William had siblings or uncles or whatnot who did. I don't know William's heritage now but the archaelogists have promised me a full set of information when their report is done. When I get it I'll post to the group again all I have found. cb At 19:40 3/22/01 -0600, you wrote: >I have a Rececca Reed/Read who married Littleberry Aldridge 19 July 1817 >in Greene Co. 2. Hi Pat - Have you seen the bio about John Vandervort b. June 2, 1813, son of Jonah and Elizabeth Vandervort in History of Clinton County, Ohio, page 950? Also, on page 758 there is a Samuel Reed who came from Bourbon, KY in 1803 and settled on the Lindsay Survey. He brought three children including a daughter, Elizabeth. Then on page 1102 there is a note that Samuel Reed was born in VA in 1784. I hope this may be helpful George T

    3. Pat Based on her dates, your particular Elizabeth, is she is related to this "batch" of Reeds, would have to be a sibling or cousin of William, father of David and grandfather of John. That's assuming of course we can place her in the right part of Virginia. Do you know what general area she came from? This Reed homestead is in Hardy Co WV that was part of VA until the War. cb At 19:11 3/22/01 EST, you wrote: >This is an interesting website. 3. Hi Greene County I have finally figured out where my gt-gt-grandfather with the frustrating name of JOHN REED (b. 1855, lived in Greene Co). came from. His parents were David Reed and Susan Orndorff of Hardy Co VA (later WV). David and Susan and parts of their family disappear from Hardy Co records before 1860. Apparently at least one of David's siblings, Thomas, and his sister Susan Reed Link, also moved to Ohio. I am accumulating additional information about them and would love to meet up with anyone who can connect to these Greene Co Reeds. You might be interested that the family farm of David's parents has become an archaelogical site with a good bit of family history on it: www.reedfarmstead.com In fact, if you can make a connection to this family, you should contact the originators of the site, as they are trying to collate some information on descendants.
