    1. Tallmadge Ohio parable: WOLCOTT / ALLYN / LOOMIS & more....
    2. Al Dawson from Berea, Ohio with a genealogical parable: Last night I did my first posting to the new (to me at least) ALLYN-L@rootsweb.com. It went like this: Hi - new subscriber Al Dawson of Berea, Ohio looking for information on the parents of my ancestor Abigal ALLYN, born October 05, 1765, Windsor, CT, died February 21, 1836 in Tallmadge, Ohio (not in Torrington as the History of Torrington relates, I've seen her grave) married October 05, 1781 (her 16th birthday) Guy WOLCOTT, son of Alexander WOLCOTT and descended from Henry Wolcott of the "Mary and John" - marriage was in Windsor CT. So far I've been unable to link her to any of the numerous Windsor ALLYNs :( Today, on my lunch hour in the newly-reopened Cleveland Public Library I was thinking about my cardinal rule to new rooters and decided for once to follow my own advice: "always go over your old sources and old notes as often as you can, because each new piece of the puzzle might fit into an old hole" (or something folksy like that - lol) And I might add: YOU PROBABLY MISSED SOMETHING SIGNIFICANT THE FIRST TIME YOU LOOKED!!!!!! So I picked up William Richard Cutter (and others) "Genealogical and Family History of the State of Connecticut" (1911), going to final volume (four in all, massive tomes) with the index and looked under ALLYN - sure I had copied this information before... noticed a Benjamin ALLYN, which a footnote in Stile's "History of Windsor" I saw last week got me interested in....read the ENTIRE Cutter entry this time round and found Abigal ALLYN - mine, not the numerous others I've discarded, with birthday one day off - October 6, 1765 - but in Windsor, so I've added this tentaively to my tree, with lots of checking to go (LOOMIS and ALLYN sources I have copied check out so far. Here is a breakdown of new data - I'm posting this to numerous lists and cousins all at one time :) Richard ALLYN = Margaret WYATT prior to 1600 in Braunton, Devonshire, England Matthew ALLYN (wife unknown to Cutter) emigrated, settled in Windsor CT Captain Thomas ALLYN = Abigal WARHAM, daughter of Rev John WARHAM, spiritual leader of the 1635 move from Dorchester MASS to Windsor CT by several families of the "Mary and John" landing in 1630. Lt. Thomas ALLYN = Martha WOLCOTT, daughter of Simon WOLCOTT (my THIRD link to this "Mary and John" family :) Lt Thomas died in 1709. Benjamin ALLYN (1686-1713) = Ann WATSON Captain Benjamin ALLYN (1711-1776) = Abigal LOOMIS, daughter of Job and Abigal (FILLEY) [- hey, didn't a filley win the Belmont????] LOOMIS Benjamin ALLYN (born 13 September 1736 - died 1827. He served in Colonel Newberry's regiment in the revolutionary war. First wife, whose surname is unknown to Cutter [ah, well, I live for mystery :)] was a Sarah, who died 9 August 1789, age 50. Only two children seem to have lived long enough to marry: Fitz John ALLYN (born 1763) - big article on him, being a SON; he married a Deborah Philips. AND.....drumroll..... Abigal, born October 6, 1765.
