This memo is in memory of my second cousin Reed Allen Willson (12 Sep 1935-06 Jul 1999). Reed died at his computer while reading his email. My memories of Reed go back to childhood and the family reunions. His sister Joyce and many other cousins all played together during these happy times. Since Reed was 4 years younger than I, we didn't know each other too well then. We were reaquained through genealogy. Another cousin told me he thought Reed might be interested. I will take the credit for getting him hooked and also onto a computer. At first, we wrote to each other through snail mail. Then we talked for hours on the phone, sharing what we had found, discussing what we needed to do next. Finally, Reed got his Gateway and away we went. He joined the Springer Mailing List where I am Listowner. Reed did lots of legwork for me in Geauga County. He photographed graves, found old pictures, had them restored and sent me copies. He went to the Geauga County Library and copied old census records and vital records and sent copies to me. Once he was hooked, he did a lot of work on his lines where we were not related. One aunt on his Reed line had paid a professional to research the family back to its New England origins. The professional got way off the track and gave the aunt bad information. Reed went to Connecticut and with the help of a County History librarian straightened the whole mess out. The Reed family now has good genealogy. The reason Reed as able to do all this is because he retired early. When we were getting reacquainted as adults, he told me he thought he would probably die young and so he and Shirley retired in their 50's to enjoy life a little. He was quite a prophet. Reed was a graduate of Kent State University, having worked his was through. He was active in his church, Bainbridge Community Church, and was buried Restland Cemetery, Bainbridge Twp, Geauga County, OH on July 10, 1999. Reed was well known in Geauga County. He had a very friendly and caring nature. Farewell Reed! You will be missed in the genealogy community, and by your family and friends.
