    1. Thomas AINSLEY 1776-1845 ENG>NY>OH
    2. L Baughan
    3. Thomas AINSLEY, AINESLIE, or similar spelling, was born in 1776 in England. He married Jane and they had five known children: Matthew, William, Thomas jr, Nancy, and Mary [Polly]. The family immigrated to America, probably arriving before 1805. They made their way west through New York, eventually settling in Parkman Twp, Geauga Co, OH. Prior to 1811 when daughter Mariah [Maria] was born, Thomas sr married Polly. Besides Mariah, I know of five other children born into this family. I have the estate papers of Thomas sr. He died in May of 1844 or 1845. Much of the old handwriting is quite difficult to read, but it appears to me that in several places, he is referred to as "Thomas AINSLIE Dr". I'd like to know if he was indeed a doctor - or am I misreading this? It seems odd to me that the "Dr" always appears after his name. According to the papers, he was involved in construction... sounds like a busy man. Does someone have some sort of "business directory" which might include Thomas AINSLEY? I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks! Loretta Baughan

    1. GAITHER
    2. Dick Howard
    3. Hi everyone! This is my first letter to all of you here in Geauga County! I would like to hear from any others who are descendants of the GAITHER families. They came from England and mostly settled in MD before moving on across the country. I have been told that there are GAITHERS and their descendants that also settled in Geauga. If by chance they are also descendants of the PRATHER family, that would be a double bonus to me. Please get in touch if you have any information. Thanks! Jane Howard dhf@nowonline.net

    3. Re: Message sent Sat., 10 Apr. 1999 13:09 -700 -- See first paragraph below. Looking for place of death for SARAH RAND, b. 01/12/1797 at Hopkinton, MA., married John Noyes in Geauga County, Ohio, on April 12, 1818; d. 07/03/1841, place unknown. Me thinks she died someplace in Geauga County. In looking over old letters I have that were written by Sarah Rand to her family and the Noyes families, I see that most of her life she lived at Madison, Ohio. At that time Madison was in Geauga County but now (according to the Atlas) Madison is now in Lake County. O.K.!! Now, with this added info maybe someone can help me. Sure would appreciate it. If someone would like to share the e-mail address of the Lake County, Ohio Genealogical Society Chapter, I could e-mail these questions to that Chapter. Thanks. Evalyn

    1. SPRINGER PURDY KEENY
    2. Dear friends, This is Al Dawson in Berea, Ohio. I'm so glad there is finally a Geauga list! My Geauga ancestors were named SPRINGER and PURDY From: 1850 Ohio Census, Geauga County, Bainbridge Township, 303 GARRETT SPRINGER 39 m, Farmer born NY CHLOE SPRINGER 32, f, born NY CHARLOTTE SPRINGER 9, f, born NY JANE A. SPRINGER, 6, f, born NY E. G. SPRINGER, 3, m, born OH ELLEN M. SPRINGER, 1, f, born OH there is an error in this: Charlotte is really Charles (I'll bet the census taker's notes read "Chas" and he read them as "Char") - Charles died in the Civil War. Chloe (PURDY) Springer died in 1853. Her parents were Charles PURDY and Anthy FRENCH - I have quite a lot of information on these lines from my SPRINGER cousin Jane Jackson. Garrett married a second time. His second family reflected in this data from a wonderful book by Violet Warren and Jeannette Grosvenor (1983) INSCRIPTIONS AND INTERMENTS IN GEAUGA CO: A MONUMENTAL WORK pp 2-3 Maple Shade Cemetery in Auburn Corners LOT 39 - A. Springer [no dates] LOT 40 - H. M. Andrews [and other Andrews including...] ANDREWS, Homer M. 1849-1923; Ellen M., his wife (nee SPRINGER) 1849-1923 [Al's note: the Ellen M. Springer who was 1 in 1850 census Bainbridge Township, under Garrett and Chloe Springer] LOT 49 C. C. SPRINGER Clarence C. Springer 1869-1919 Edwin F. Springer 1847-1915 [Al's note: POSSIBLY the E. G. Springer of 1850 census quoted above, male of 3] Louisa F. Springer "Mother" [Al's note: Jane says she was Louisa Keeny] Garrett G. Springer "Father" 1814-1878 Sarah B. Springer 1865-1883 ---------------------------------------- Interested in meeting others related to these families. I know that Jane and I have a cousin Reed Willson in the area, who has been kind enough to reply to me and share his information. Thanks, Al Dawson

    1. NICHOLS of Chester Twp.
    2. Beth Bourque
    3. So happy this list exists!!! Hezekiah NICHOLS (Humphrey, Humphrey, John, Thomas) of Chester Twp. from abt. 1830 til he died in 1853, was married twice. His first wife and mother of his eleven (or more) children appears to have been Lois KELLEY, as listed in Vershire, Orange Co., VT records, yet Lavina CHILDS is referred to as mother of at least five of these children on their death records. Those five are: Orville and Granville, who stayed in Geauga Co. and Carlos, Susan, and Philura who moved on to Allegan Co., MI. Also found in Geauga County is daughter Lois Nichols who married Silas T. GILMORE in 1838. Orville married Lavira PRATT and had (at least) a daughter, Emma. Which woman is the mother of which children? Would like to find out more about Lois KELLEY and Lavina CHILDS and Hezekiah's descendants. I have several generations back on Hezekiah's line that I will share with those descendants. Beth Bourque NEW EMAIL ADDRESS starting in MAY 1999!!! Reach me at beth-ron@juno.com if my MSU address bounces back to you.
