    3. Vicki- Where did you find the listing? There is a Chester twp. in Geauga, as well as Chester Center, a small village on 306 between Chesterland and Kirtland on the Geauga side of the border. I'd start looking around that area. 1. Groves, Turner, Whitney
    2. Hi all, Sometime between 1880 and 1900 George Turner and his wife Sarah (Groves) left Mentor Twp., Lake Co. and moved to live with Sarah's parents Matthias and Delilah (Shaw) Groves on their farm in Hampden Twp., Geauga Co. During that time, 1st daughter Bertha Turner married and left home. 2nd daughter Blanche was also married by 1910 when I found George and Sarah living with 3rd daughter Olive and her husband Frank Whitney. I hope someone out there recognizes these names and can help me fill in some blanks on this family. Serena in Michigan SOliphant@aol.com Researching the Groves family from Jefferson Co, Ohio.

I first find Abial Pierson listed on the 1830 census in Kirtland Township. His documented children are: Julius Egbert Pierson, bap. 1 May 1814 David Holbrook Pierson, bap. 12 May 1816 Melissa Holbrook Pierson, bap 23 Aug. 1818 Nathan Josiah Pierson, bap 5 Sept. 1826 All of these children were born and baptised in Derby, Conn. before moving to Ohio. My 2'nd great grandfather was John Fairchild Pierson, from the death and census records I have, he was either born in 1810 or 1813. I have found no record of his birth to Abiel and Irene Pierson, however I have some of his letters referring to his sister Melissa who married Alfred Holbrook and moved to Lebenon, Ohio. There is also mention of his brother Josiah who lived in Lauderdale County, Tenn. as did John Fairchild Pierson from about 1848 until 1878. If anyone know anything of this family I would love to hear from you. Pat Boothe --------------F3B00DF07ECF49BDD4425E7E--

    1. A present for Cousin Jane's recovery from Al Dawson
    2. Dear Springer list, The other day, on my lunchtime trip to the Cleveland Public Library, I was replacing an index volume for 1860 Ohio when I noticed six new volumes on the shelf below...and they turned out to be a 1999 set of indices for the 1870 Ohio census :) I immediately copied the numerous SPRINGER entries, and looked for the common ancestor of Jane Jackson, Chris Augustine, the late Reed Willson and myself: Garrett Springer. By 1870 he was on his second marriage (we four are descended from the first) and the index had TWO listings for him. The set of indices is terrific as it gives you the AGE of the main entry person, his or her state of birth, geneder, race and SPELLS OUT the county and township, followed by census roll number and page reference. Garret Springer on the index page had two almost indentical enteries. Age 55 w m, born NY, Geauga County, Chester Township, roll 1204 and pages 109 and 119. I went to the machine and to page 109. 23rd day of July 1870 Garrett, info above, Stone Mason Louisa [2nd wife] 34, f w, Tailoress, born Ohio Edwin G. [by first marriage] 23, m, w, Stone Mason, born Ohio Bertha E. 7 f w, born Ohio Sarah B. 4 f w Clarence 2 m w , born Ohio reeling to page 119 I found, to my amazement: an 1870 census form altered by slashing the final zero to allow the date to read 18th day of March 1871. Information was exactly the same. Al Dawson, Berea, Ohio - MA, History, UNC-Chapel Hill, 1973. "HAVE SPOOL, WILL UNRAVEL" Professional Services Available. 3. hi, I am looking for information on the above mentioned person(s). Amariah Rose/Ross m. Betsy Bunnell. Betsy is buried in the Welton cemetery in Geauga Co. I have Ross's marrying Bunnells in nearby Summit Co., OH and a William and Cynthia Ross of Portage Co. who are related some how to Ira Bunnell and Mary Ross, of Summit Co., as well as Azariah Ross and Mariah ________ Ross of Summit Co. (lived w/ Ira and Mary). can anyone tie these loose ends together for me? I have family papers that tie most of them together, but the papers don't say what the exact relationship is but for one, and it had to be sluethed out a bit. I have a chart that shows what I believe is the correct relationship of William and Mary Ross, if anyone's interested. it's a tangled web. :} I've asked the Ross, Roots, Portage and Summit Co. lists, to no avail. haven't asked the Rose list, yet. thanks. 3. Is there anyone out there with information on what research has been done on ancestral line of Olive GRISWOLD( d. 28 Dec 1862, Burton), wife of Gilbert FERRISS ( d. 15 Jun 1835), of Newbury? On a trip to Salt Lake City recently, I found an entry in a 1995 issue of the "Raconteur" which suggested that Olive's parents were Jonathan GRISWOLD and Sarah OSBURN of Connecticut. The person who submitted the information was a Faye Hilton of Pecatonica, IL. I have written her a letter, but in the meantime I am trying to find substantial evidence that would link Olive with her parents and would love to hear from anyone who may be researching this line. 1. LAST SEEN: AUSTINBURG - 5 June 1860
    2. Carol Jo Thompson
    3. MARCY KENDALL is listed as a "retired housekeeper", age 92, in the US Census of 1860. At that time she was living with her daughter, 59 year old CHARLOTTE KENDALL BARRETT. To date I have been unable to locate any death or cemetery records for either. The book, Pioneer Women of Ohio, indicates that Marcy died at the age of 95 but gives no documentation of any kind for their statement. In the same source it is stated that Charlotte died as Mrs. Myron Whiting in 1868. A cursory examination of Myron Whiting data would indicate that assertion is incorrect. It would appear that Whiting's first wife, Rhoda, died in 1830, he married Lucy Proctor in Trumbull County in January 1831, and he must have married again, but it looks like his third wife was someone named Helen. (It's possible there was another Mrs. Whiting between Lucy and Helen, but I found no evidence of that. -- Remember: I said I only did a cursory exam of Whiting's records!) Is there anyone who recognizes any of these names or could enlighten me further about these people -- especial Marcy and Charlotte? All information and suggestions will be most welcome. Thanks so much. st welcome. Thanks so much.

    1. In Memory of Reed Allen Willson
    2. Jane Jackson
    3. This memo is in memory of my second cousin Reed Allen Willson (12 Sep 1935-06 Jul 1999). Reed died at his computer while reading his email. My memories of Reed go back to childhood and the family reunions. His sister Joyce and many other cousins all played together during these happy times. Since Reed was 4 years younger than I, we didn't know each other too well then. We were reaquained through genealogy. Another cousin told me he thought Reed might be interested. I will take the credit for getting him hooked and also onto a computer. At first, we wrote to each other through snail mail. Then we talked for hours on the phone, sharing what we had found, discussing what we needed to do next. Finally, Reed got his Gateway and away we went. He joined the Springer Mailing List where I am Listowner. Reed did lots of legwork for me in Geauga County. He photographed graves, found old pictures, had them restored and sent me copies. He went to the Geauga County Library and copied old census records and vital records and sent copies to me. Once he was hooked, he did a lot of work on his lines where we were not related. One aunt on his Reed line had paid a professional to research the family back to its New England origins. The professional got way off the track and gave the aunt bad information. Reed went to Connecticut and with the help of a County History librarian straightened the whole mess out. The Reed family now has good genealogy. The reason Reed as able to do all this is because he retired early. When we were getting reacquainted as adults, he told me he thought he would probably die young and so he and Shirley retired in their 50's to enjoy life a little. He was quite a prophet. Reed was a graduate of Kent State University, having worked his was through. He was active in his church, Bainbridge Community Church, and was buried Restland Cemetery, Bainbridge Twp, Geauga County, OH on July 10, 1999. Reed was well known in Geauga County. He had a very friendly and caring nature. Farewell Reed! You will be missed in the genealogy community, and by your family and friends. Jane Jackson Houston, TX mmunity, and by = your family and friends. =20 Jane Jackson Houston, TX
