Hello Beth, Related to the familysearch.org site, they are undergoing some changes and that may account for the problems you found. I recently called on some library staff for business and they are in the throes of digitizing books and microfilm along with a new search engine so that eventually when we enter a term you will get everything they have: census records, IGI, etc. Pass along a comment if you get a chance, they may not be aware of the inconsistencies getting out to us. Also, it's people who make our website grow daily...whether it's a photo or an obit or a cemetery addition. We really, really appreciate that. If everyone would look through their folders, I'm sure they'd find an obit or two to contribute. Whenever I look for an obit, I always gather five or ten others at the same time and then type them up as time allows. Sometimes when I'm at Mound Hill Cemetery, I'll drive around and spot more new graves and copy those as well. We update monthly from newspaper obits. We've updated several fairly large cemeteries but with 500 in Gallia County, we are always happy to have help. To get things on the website, it takes people who are willing to type items. We've got a couple of major projects in the works but we don't want to mention them until we're closer to getting them on. That way people won t be asking "Is it done yet?" We work as quickly as time permits. We really, really want to help everyone and as we celebrate 25 years as an OGS Chapter this year, we have planned significant events. One for everyone right now is the 25% per cent off sale on 25 items for our 25th year. We are an all volunteer facility but we have rent, utilities, insurance and many other expenses so the sale of books, memberships and donations help keep us afloat. Yes, it even costs to maintain a website. We wish we could give everything away but then we would not be able to exist as a group where you can come and visit. Everything we do to help you is done strictly by donation of our own time. And the gals that man our office are terrific at helping others. There's never a dull day at 57 Court Street where we are open Wed. thru Fri. So far in the last few weeks with researchers out and about, we've opened 5 or 6 more times on weekends or weekdays. We advertise that we will and we do it. But remember that these volunteers give freely and willingly to help you. Same way with the webite...it is by the help of many that it is what it is. We have one terrific webmaster, again a volunteer. And this list, again it's a donation to all of us from Marty Cassidy. So, yes, in the spirit of helping others, let's all do what we can. There's going to help me with all the Ohio railroads though. They said it's tricky because the railroad retirement board only has from 1936 on and you have to pay about $30.00 to order those. I'm looking at the 1880's. Apparently the railroad in Southern Ohio has a rich history because it was also the subject of "invasions" by the South into Ohio during the Civil War. The Ohio Archives has a whole list of how the Civil War soldiers invaded the trains. It's pretty interesting [I think anyway].
