I am not sure why you would say the Historical Society will not give up since the split, why should they. They are preserving the History of Gallia County with their museum, military project and items of historical research at the society. They also have family histories and many research books that the Genealogical Society nor the local library has. Many cities and states have both a Historical and a Genealogical Society but it is because some want to keep fighting that have turned many people off to becoming involved in either society which is sad because both groups have much to offer. I have been President of both these Societies but because of all the feuding and fighting, I have chose to not be involved with either group at this time. I can tell everyone that people from both groups will be willing to help in your research and you should not worry about who is from which organization and maybe one day the fighting and back stabbing will stop but as long as people continue to say things like you did then the fire is continued to be fueled and the hurt won't be mended. I'm not trying to start a fight, only trying to make the one go away that started a few years ago, we are all trying to help people with their research in Gallia County. Many of us have volumes of research but walk on eggshells on this list because we don't know if we are going to be attacked by people we have never met but they have decided they don't like us because of this stupid split between the two societies. In hindsight, I believe there was more going on than most of us was aware so people on a web list should not judge and just except information that is given freely by whomever. I'm sure this email will not make me a popular person with many but hey, I've been there before and I am willing to help anyone with Gallia County history or genealogy and DAR information, if I possible and with no strings attached. Marjorie L. Wood ----- Marjorie- I, too , am a member of both societies and would like to see things resolved so that both groups can give their full attention to their respective missions. I think if the Historical Society removed the "Genealogical" part of their title so that we would have a Gallia County Genealogical Society, OGS and a Gallia County Historical Society, a big step in the right direction would be taken.
