Hi Guys! I hope you all will forgive me for this plea, but as a little girl one of the pleasures of coming to our family reunion in Gallipolis was seeing the magnificent Delta Queen that was usually in the southeast Ohio area of the river. It was fun to listen to the calliope, and see the symbol of olden times leisurely going up to Pittsburg, or going back down to Cincinnati and points further on. It's kind of sad to think that she'll fade away as a fond memory of many of us who've lived along the river, or had fond memories of her when we were in the area. I don't know how many of you share these same kind of memories, and want to pass them on to the next generation. But the Delta Queen's exemption was not renewed by Congress (her sisters don't require an exemption since none of their superstructure is wood, the DQ has a steel hull, but portions of her superstructure are wood). There is Save the Delta Queen group that is trying to get Congress to reverse their decision. The following are two places to check out the latest on the DQ http://www.majesticamericaline.com/SaveTheDeltaQueen.aspx and http://www.save-the-delta-queen.org/ She will be on the Ohio a lot over the next several months. Upcoming cruises that will pass Gallipolis will happen sometime during the following weeks. May 5-10 up and May 10-20 down June 3-14 up and June 14-24 down July 22-Aug 2 up and Aug. 2-Aug 12 down Sept. 2-13 up and Sept. 13-23 down Sept. 23 Oct. 4 up and Oct. 4-14 down. Her final voyage. Sorry for posting this, but it does tie in to many of our fond memories of old Gallia, Washington, and Lawrence Counties. Thanks, Linda Trent lindatrent@zoomnet.net
