The following Gallia items were found in the following newspapers: The Times Recorder (Zanesville, Ohio) > 1926 > September > 21 "OLD COMMISSION FOUND Gallipolis, O., September 30---A commission as justice of the peace issued to the late David LASLEY, wealthy Gallia county farmer in 1812, was found today by A. F. LASLEY of this city. The commission was recorded in the Gallia county courthouse by Francis LeClerg, a Frenchman, who was clerk of courts." The Times Recorder (Zanesville, Ohio) > 1928 > December > 14 "GALLIA COUNTY WANTS VANCE MEMORIAL Cincinnati, O., Dec. 13--The proposal to erect a monument to the memory of Col John L. VANCE, either at Pittsburg or Cincinnati, as a tribute to his pioneering efforts on behalf of Ohio river [improvements, was protested in a resolution received today by W. C. Culkins, secretary of the Ohio Valley Improvement Association from the Gallia Community Association, Gallipolis. Dr. C. E. HOLSER, president of the Gallipolis association, stated in a letter accompanying the resolution that Colonel VANCE was born in Gallia county and is buried there. In view of this, he stated, any memorial erected should be placed in Gallipolis. Citizens of Gallipolis, he said, are prepared to assist the Ohio Valley Improvement association in every way possible if the monument is erected In Gallia county. Mr. Culkins will present the resolution of protest at the meeting of the association, he said."
