Source: Sandy Williams, [email protected] Source:Anne Lyle, [email protected] Hi! My ancestor Henry Eagle's brother George V. Eagle married Susannah Williams August 20, 1812 in Greenbrier County, Virginia. Was Susannah connected to the Williams family that are currently being discussed? She was born July 20, 1788 Greenbrier County, Virginia and died July 23, 1864 Raccoon Township, Gallia, Ohio. There is a lot of Williams info in Meigs County. My gggrandmother Susan Mills was born in Middleport and her mother was Leah Williams Mills who was born in Wales. Debbie Hodge This page is a part of the Greenbrier Co. WVGenWeb Project, coordinated by Valerie F. Crook. These pages are sponsored by RootsWeb. December 14, 1997 FLEMING, BUTLER, EAGLE Looking for information on Eleanor FLEMING born in Greenbrier County probably in the early 1700's. She supposedly died in 1769, but I don't know if she was still in Greenbrier County at the time. Eleanor may have married a BUTLER, possibly a James or a Thomas BUTLER. She may have been the mother or grandmother of (James?) Fleming BUTLER who married Elizabeth Betsey EAGLE 1816 in Greenbrier. Fleming and Elizabeth went to Gallia County, Ohio and lived there until they died. Elizabeth was the daughter of George EAGLE and Maria Elisabeth Hengerer. I am looking for possible connections to my BUTLER line which is James BUTLER and Hannah HARRAH/O'HARA also of Greenbrier. James's father, also named James married Mary Ann SIMS/SYMMES, and they also moved to Gallia County Ohio, so there must be some connection. Please email me if you have any information on any of these folks. Thanks! Subject: [OHGALLIA-L] Susanah Eagle Date: Fri, 10 Oct 2003 21:30:39 -0700 (PDT) August 18th 1864 Gallipolis Times Died On the morning of July 23rd , 1864 Mrs. Susanah Eagle , wife of George W. Eagle, Esq. of Raccoon township, Gallia county, Ohio at the age of 76 years and 2 days. For some three years the deceased had the noticed a tumor or "lump" in her right side near the lower orefice of the stomach. It caused no inconvenience or uneasiness till with the past few months , when unmistakable indicationsof decline was observed with considerable suffering in the region of the tumor and which at times became very severe. Her family physician was early called in all tendences, and not withstanding his most skillful and untiring efforts, she continued to decline rapidly and her local suffering became internally severe. When the writer was called in consultation and with him in attendance til her death. A careful examination developed an extensive cancer prevading both the stomach and liver and wholly obstructing and closing up both. Additional consultation ws immediately called in, and every effort that medical and surgical experience could suggest brought to bear in her case, but was too painfully evident that her disease was beyond human skill to arrest and after lingering in intense suffering for nearly a month nature gave way , and the venerable old lady expired full of years in the bosom of her reasserabled most affectionately attentive family , fully resigned to her fate with a firm unwavering faith in immortality beyond the grave through her Divine Lord and Savior-- The deceased was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Williams , Greenbriar County, Va. where she was bon July 20, 1788. On the 20th of August , 1812, she was united in marriage to her venerable and surviving husband , with whom in the following year she imigrated to Madison County in this state. Becoming dissatisfied with Madison county after several hazardous and daring explorations the following year, she with her husband removed to Gallia County and settled on his present farm, then a dense wilderness. Commencing life with no other inheritance than vigorous health, habits of industry and economy and a firm reliance in Good their fathers, they bodly and successfully combatted the wilderness and rugged hardships of all his toils. the warm sympathizing solace of his sorrows, and the venerated and directing star of her most interesting family circle. But the light of that household has vanished , the sum of that domestic circle is set, and the happy harmonious young satelites of other days now revolves in other spheres without a centre, the dear voice of the important wife and venerated mother, so ful of love and tenderness, that mingled in blended harmony with the music of that happy home in by goneyears, be forever hushed in death and the loved venerable form, so insequentialy associated with the dearest and most sacred memories that centered around that now desolate home lies cold and still besdie her infant , Clendine at Gibson, the silent yet impressiver membrane that the grave will, ere long become the resting place of all. The deceased at the early age of fifteen made a public professing of the Christian religion and united with the M.E. church in wiich she contineds an exemplary sad life. A venerable and devoted husband mourns for the companion of his youth with whom for fifty-two years he has journeyed on life's rugged way, now he must finish the journey alone. Two sons and six daughters have beheld for the last time a mother in whom no children were ever more blessed. The neighbors and all who were so fortunate to know her have lost a dear and tried friend. There was a poem on the bottom of the obituary but the paper had streaks through most of the story itself and the poem was not readable. I have tried to type this as it was written. cheryl Source:Cemeteries of Raccoon Twp, Gallia Co.,Ohio Gilboa Cemetery, located in section 10 of Raccoon Township on a plateau.
