So much is going on this fall. We have our Grand Opening on August 29, then on October 13 we have our 18th Annual Lineage Society Banquet at Grace United Methodist Church with social hour at 6 and dinner at 7. Speaker for the evening will be Tom Adkins, Director of the Garnet Wilson Public Library in Pike County. He will speak on "Finding Violet" a program for which he has received rave reviews from those attending. What I would like to remind everyone is of the deadlines for getting in your lineage applications and your dinner reservations. You'll get a newsletter before the event with a dinner reservation form if you are a member. But the public is always welcome to attend as well. Deadline for the applications is September 15. This allows us time to review them for acceptance and to get our program booklet prepared. Deadline for the dinner is October 5. These lineage groups are based on the Ohio Genealogical Society lineage societies. They include First Families of Gallia County for those with ancestors here by 1820, Civil War Families of Gallia County for those with soldiers or nurses who served or lived in Gallia County at any time, and Settlers and Builders for those with ancestors here between 1821 and 1860. So, the sooner you get them in the better. We try to keep up with them as soon as we can after they arrive. Also, we are always willing to help you get that missing document or to help you fill out your papers. Stop in when we are open...Wed., Thur. or Fri. between 10 and 4 or call for an appointment at 740-446-4242. We are all volunteers but we try to be available when needed. Finally, the last weekend of October we are part of the Athens District Seminar which will be held the second year at University of Rio Grande. The theme this year has to do with genealogy and technology. More later as we get closer to that event. Regular monthly meetings start up again in September after a summer break, so feel free to join us at those on the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. Thanks to all of you who are our members and regularly support our efforts to provide each researcher with all the help we can and to help our preserve the records for future generations. So many of you have added family histories to our library after you saw our master list, so please continue to send them in whether they one or many pages. Henny Evans
