Roswell Phelps. http://www.ohiohistory.org/resource/database/rosters.html The 1860 OH census has a note on a Roswell Cain (b) 1796 saying this was Roswell Phelps ... written by M. David Phelps (July 2007). This Roswell Phelps was living in Huron Co. OH in 1860. I have researched the Roswell in Huron. He is also on the 1850 census with wife Rosina [my Roswell was married to Elizabeth -- but he could have remarried.] However in looking at the children listed and where born it does not seem to be my Roswell. They were all born in PA except the youngest; she was born in Ohio about 1834/35. I have my Roswell in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 censuses -- All in Meigs, Gallia or Jackson Co., OH. The Huron Co. Roswell is age 54 in 1850. My Roswell was age 60-70 in 1840, 1830 census 50 - 66 and 1820 census he was 26 - 45. Which I figure puts his age between 40 and 45 in 1820 by looking at the other censuses. That also works with him being around 18 - 20 when he married in 1808. I'd love to claim the Huron Roswell. If you see something that I am missing, which I sure could be from looking at all this over and over, please let me know.
