Catherine, it took me about an hour today to put it altogether but I think I've found most of John Baptist Nicholas Tillaye's heirs. He left no will so I thought deeds would possibly lead me to the answers we want. He died in 1823 and some of his property was still being sold by his heirs 30 years later...each heir having 1/9 to sell. The problem was that some sold immediately, others waited 20 years and then one even waited 30. But the great news is that I did find that Catherine Hayward, wife of Solomon, was daughter of John Tillaye. Other heirs included Henry and Sophia Whitman, William and Mary Ann Clendenin, Paul C. Tillaye, Robert Gill and Mary Harvey of Evansville, IN, Madeline Ruby, the widow of Christopher Ruby aka Christopher Pistor, and Louisa Herse, no husband named. So, all but Paul were daughters of John. As we know from John's estate he left a widow Catherine and several minor children. That's part of the reason the property took so long to be sold...those minors grew up. There was no mention in the deeds of widow Catherine, but she presumably remarried fairly quickly to David L. Garau. Sophia, Mary Ann, Catherine and Madeline all married here. So, congrats, we are adding Catherine Tillaye and John B.N. Tillaye to your First Families ancestors to go along with Solomon Hayward. I've added a copy of the deed to your file and will see that you get one as well. Glad you brought this up! Henny Evans
