    1. [OHGALLIA] Gallia County First Family
    2. RICHARD LAND
    3. I have a colateral ancestor who may fall in the first family category. His name is Lewis Land. He probably arrived with two brothers and two sisters from VA before 1820. He owned 40 acres of property in Jackson County but apparently lived in Gallia County. Lewis was a Justice of Peace in the 1842-43 time frame in Gallipolis and later moved to Adamsville where he was living when he died on 1 Febuary 1844. Although I do not have any record, he is believed to be buried in Watson Cemetery. Estate and probate records in 1847 identify some but not all of his heirs. His brother, George relocated to Switzerland County, IN and married there in 1824. His brother, Elijah married in Gallia County in 1825 and relocatd near his brother, George in the late 1830s. Lewis was married to Catherine (Katherine) Wood and her parents are believed to be Jessie Wood and Lyda Mcullough. Jessie was born in VA in 1765 and died in Gallia County abt 1837. Jessie married Lyda on 11 Dec 1787 in VA and married Mary Cooper 23 Dec 1829 in Gallia County. _________________________________________________________________ See what you’re getting into…before you go there http://newlivehotmail.com/?ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_viral_preview_0507

    3. First Families of Gallia County, OGS requires a direct ancestor in the county by 1820. If you think you have one, we'd love to have you join our society. The only lineage society which permits collateral is the Society of Civil War Families of Gallia County, OGS.
