I am sorry Susan, but if Hocking Valley was east of Gallia County it would be in the Ohio River, only thing east of us is the big river. This is a nice website that will allow you to see the area that we are talking about. http://www.hockinghills.com/ It is a beautiful area with lots of rolling hill sides . The Hocking Valley Railroad, a restored steam engine , runs every weekend and most week days during the summer. If you are a railroad buff or just like to take a leisurely trip to the area there is alot of things to see and hear. Yes, the Ohio Canal system did run through this area and one of the locks is still visible... there is a little roadside picnic park there.
