Hi! I am doing some research on the Lanthorn family of Lawrence and Gallia Counties in Ohio. Elizabeth Griffith married David G. Lanthorn in 1829. They had five children: Joseph, Lewis Able, Mary Jane, John, and David. David the father died in 1843. Elizabeth then married Walter Neal, a widower, who had many children. They were living in Walnut Township, Gallia County in 1850 with some of the Lanthorn children, some of the Neal children, and several of their children that they had together. By 1860, Walter and Elizabeth were living in Harrison Township, Gallia County, where they lived until their deaths. I am trying to track down information on several children of Elizabeth (Griffith) Lanthorn and David Lanthorn. John Lanthorn was born about 1837 or 1839 in Ohio (likely in Lawrence County). He was living with Elizabeth and Walter Neal in Gallia County in 1850. He is not with them in 1860. He married Cassandra Croush on August 1, 1861 in Gallia County. They appear in Gallia County in 1870 with the following children: Nancy E., born about 1863; Mary J. R., born about 1865; Susan D., born about 1866; and Francis M., born about 1869. I cannot find any of the family in the 1880 or the 1900 census anywhere. I'm wondering if some kind of sickness wiped out the whole family. David Lanthorn was born about 1841 in Ohio (likely in Lawrence County). He was living with Elizabeth and Walter Neal in Gallia County in 1850. He is not with them in 1860. I haven't found any evidence of him living on his own anywhere in any other census. I know that Walter and probably Elizabeth (Griffith) Lanthorn Neal too, were buried in what is known as Neal or Lanthorn Cemetery in Harrison Township. Might John and David be buried in this same cemetery? Does anyone have information about these two Lanthorns (John and David)? Can anyone scour their cemetery books for John and David in either Walnut or Harrison Townships? Thanks for any help! - Jean Griesan Colorado
