Perhaps even better than a CD might be a USB drive. They are fairly inexpensive now and I have seen some with as much as 1 gigabyte of memory. Of course, for GEDCOM's and other text files one that big would not be necessary. That is what I have my family tree on plus my father-in-laws and a couple other trees I am working. I can put it around my neck and have it with me where I go. It is great and I have one that is the larger size. I got it on sale at Radio Shack, you don't want a small gigabyte because you can't hold much information.
