If so, I have gone back another generation, Sally Ann Carter was my 2nd great grandmother!!! Due to the fact that I am "just doing" genealogy, I though I should have a professional genealogist work on John Carter and Mary Lehr Carter. At least 50 people in more than 50 years have not been able to find out any more than the fact that they were married in Shenandoah, Virginia. John Carter lived in Gallia County for about 60 years, had nine children and score of grandchildren. None of the books on John and Mary are correct, files are missing. The Will book states that John has a will on file, however, it has been gone for more than the four years I have been working on the Carter's. There has to be something that gives some information about John and Mary's family and place of birth! If anyone has any suggestions about where to find this information, I am open for anything. I have worked on about every branch in the Carter family going back to the early 1600's in ! I, as well as many other people on the list, have ancestors from Germany, many of them came to Pennsylvania. An amazing amount of these families ended up in Gallia County. I have forwarded any information on surnames I recognized to the appropriate member of the list. Are the books on births in Pennsylvania transcriptions of birth records? It is unclear because you stated that he authored the set of 14, not compiled, edited and published them. Denise, the biographical sketch of John Humphrey said exactly that, he was the author of the set. Someone else provided you his contact so it would be best you just ask him as I do not know.
