    3. Thank you. Sharon Hobart <slhobart@sbcglobal.net> wrote:Cheryl & the Society, I for one appreciate being kept informed. I joined the Gallia County Genealogical Society many years ago and want to continue to support the County's Genealogical Society. When a new organization takes on a name similar to an already established organization, you are obligated to your members to maintain clarity as needed to protect the Society's reputation and charter. This is not meant to cast doubt on the other organization. It is ethical to make sure I (one of its members) knows who I am dealing with and not have my contributions or membership diverted unwittingly based on this confusion, whether purposeful or not. (Someone else brought this back in to play by bringing up the membership drive by the new group to members of the current Society) If I had a company and another company established themselves using the same name + a few letters, I would make the same distinction to my constituents/customers when necessary and, logically, so would most people. I almost kept quiet -- but since everyone has opinions and taking your note out of context, I thought I'd share mine. Conference this weekend Just to inform those of you the ladies who will be attending the OGS conference are not affiliated with the Gallia County Chapter OGS Genealogical Society. This is the INC group. The books that they will be selling are limited to the publications that are owned by Henny Evans . You will not be able to purchase the full range of books that are available through the Gallia County Genealogical Society, OGS chapter at the 412 Second Avenue , Gallipolis , Ohio building or website www.gchags. The applications that you can pick up at OGS conference are not affiliated with the lineage societies banquet for First Families, Civil War Families and the new Settlers and Builders Family ,October 8, 2005. The OGS conference is a great place to learn more about research. The classes that are offered are enumerated on the OGS website... www.ogs.org just click on the conference information. Workshops are very informative and will be an asset to you, not unlike the workshops that will be held for the Gallia County GeneFest 2005 . If you can't attend OGS conference then plan to come to the one day, June 4th, Workshops. We will also have area genealogical societies in to sell their publications and to assist you in helping you find the resources of their area . More information will be coming in the future about the workshops. Just mark your calendar for June 4th, an all day genealogical extravaganza. Plan to stay for the "lock-in" at Bossard Memorial Library from 6pm-9pm. Come for all or part of the Fest , I am sure that you will learn many valuable pieces of information. Cheryl Enyart VP of the Gallia County Genealogical Society, OGS Chapter. Chairman of GeneFest 2005 Henny Evans wrote: Several of us will be attending the Ohio Genealogical Society Conference in Akron Thursday through Saturday. We will be manning the Gallia County Chapter table. Please stop by to chat, to pick up applications or even to buy books. We are always willing to try to help answer your genealogical questions. For those of you unfamiliar with the Conference, there are scores of classes offered on many topics from beginning to ethnic to computer use. There are also dozens of vendors with a wonderful selection of books, archival materials, maps and so on. We look forward to just saying hello!!!!
