When a new organization takes on a name similar to an already established organization, you are obligated to your members to maintain clarity as needed to protect the Society's reputation and charter. It is ethical to make sure I (one of its members) knows who I am dealing with and not have my contributions or membership diverted unwittingly based on this confusion, whether purposeful or not. (Someone else brought this back in to play by bringing up the membership drive by the new group to members of the current Society) If I had a company and another company established themselves using the same name + a few letters, I would make the same distinction to my constituents/customers when necessary and, logically, so would most people. Workshops are very informative and will be an asset to you, not unlike the workshops that will be held for the Gallia County GeneFest 2005 . If you can't attend OGS conference then plan to come to the one day, June 4th, Workshops. We will also have area genealogical societies in to sell their publications and to assist you in helping you find the resources of their area . More information will be coming in the future about the workshops. Just mark your calendar for June 4th, an all day genealogical extravaganza. Plan to stay for the "lock-in" at Bossard Memorial Library from 6pm-9pm. Come for all or part of the Fest , I am sure that you will learn many valuable pieces of information.
