    2. I hope these early census reports will aide many of you working on First Families. Please note that all of the names are not spelled correctly. One example is CALLISON. Mr. Allison's middle initial was places before his surname in error. John Carter appears as John Carder, etc. I was interested in the Army Lands, I hope that they will be of assistance to some of you. I will post some of the "other" Ohio census in segments soon. As you can see, there were many census' taken during that period of time, you just need to check all of them. I have forwarded these to the Historical and Genealogical Society for their files for those who do not have the ability to print or just for reference. The Firstmom's Website has some wonderful links with a wealth of information on all different people, places and things. The website yields a treasure trove of information and invaluable leads. I will curl up with a Nora Roberts novel, not page upon page of statistics. Unfortunately our ancestors did not have the advantages we now have. They were thrilled to gleam even a morsel of information any way they could and worked together due to the lack of technology, expense and lack of availability of telephones, availability of copying, inability to travel due to cost and length of time. (Also, as someone recently wrote to the list, I think we are all related some way or another!!) Bill Welker has a letter that my Grandmother Lida wrote to him back in the 1960's and I have the handwritten notes she made. My Grandmother, Lida Carter Ashleman, Garnet Miller and Louise Butterfield all worked on finding out about John Carter with limited resources. I shouldn't leave! out Mrs. Smeltzer. William Smeltzer was our entire families Doctor in Columbus, now I understand why. If anyone on this list has a copy of Carol Carter's book of information, please contact me via e-mail or the Society at 740-446-7200 as the original disappeared months ago. Carol worked so hard on the book and would be crushed that anyone had the unmitigated gall to steal it. Denise
