    3. That is a good map, but the Hocking River goes on and empties into the Ohio River...... 3. Charlie, I think this was a map of Navigable Branch Canals. I found it by accident. I thought Sharon Gates might get some info from it, it sure helped me. Doesn't the Hocking River dump into the Ohio up by Coolville area? I go up that way 3 or 4 times a year, but never thought much about it. I guess I was pretty dense, but I didn't think about people traveling by canal, only by the Ohio River (guess that comes from seeing the big boats going up and down the river all my life, even now we can hear the boats motors at night when everything is quiet). I know people traveled up into the heart of Gallia County by way of Raccoon Creek, I'm sure the Hocking served the same purpose. Mary Lee One stumble is enough to deface the character of an honorable life. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charlie Hazlett" <charlie@hazlett.net> To: <OHGALLIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2005 7:02 AM Subject: Re: [OHGALLIA-L] Hocking Valley > > That is a good map, but the Hocking River goes on and empties into the > Ohio River...... > > > > On 4/14/2005, "Mary Lee Davis Marchi" <mlmquilt@zoomnet.net> wrote: > >>This website shows the Hocking Valley, it is clearly marked.. 3. Well, I, too, seem to forget about the canals and travel on them, partly, I suppose, because by the time the canals were built most of my ancestors were already in Gallia. The latest of any of mine arriving there was 1860, William Richard, from Wales. Strange about him, he settled in Clay Township instead of in the northern part of the county with the other Welsh.........
