My Great-Great Grandfather, George Wolfgang Herrmann [1814-1862] had 10 children. His second daughter, Magdalena Rosina Catharina Herrmann [1844-1897] married a Joseph Huggins on 07 May 1865 in Gallia County, Ohio. They had 3 children, [William, Magdalena, and Joseph, Jr.]. In the meantime..............back at the farm............her sister, Margaretha Dorothea Herrmann [1854-1935] was "fooling around" with her sister's husband Joseph Huggins. One morning, after the Cock crowed, Magdalena arose to find that her sister, Margaretha and her husband, Joseph Huggins, ran away together. They went first to Kentucky, and legally changed their last names, [Joseph changed his last name to "Davis" and Margaretha Herrmann changed her maiden name to "Ryder". Then they moved to Mountain Cove, Lucas, Fayette County, West Virginia and got married [Again for Joseph]. Joseph never legally divorced his first wife, since Margaretha could not face her sister and mother with what she had done. They had 10 children. They never saw their original families again. Joseph died in 1912 and Margaretha died in 1935. Magdalena [the first wife] never married anyone else again. Meanwhile, back at the Cheshire farm, they withdrew the "Amber alert" finally realizing what may have happened. Talk about "skeletons" in the closet. My tree is full of them. Makes you realize that even back then people had "exciting" lives! I noticed on the Ancestry.Com that allot of people doing the Davis family tree, always end at Joseph "Davis" and seem to have a "brick wall" in figuring out who his parents are!
