I had a GGGG Grandfather Thomas Lewis back in the late 1700's who had 4 children by one woman and 1 by another without benefit of marriage and was hauled into court on at least 3 occasions for fornication but nothing ever came of it. I guess because just before he died ( only a few days) he obtained a marriage license to marry the mother of 4 of his boys. Died and never got to marry!
