Transcribed by Joyce Robinson Athens Messenger May 24, 1888 GALLIA An effort is being made to get Colonel Robert Ingersoll to address the soldiers during the Gallipolis Reunion. Miss Lucy Slack, an estimable young lady, of Gallipolis, died, Saturday evening 12th inst., of consumption. Wm. Thomas, an epileptic at the Gallia county Infirmary for two years, from Cheshire, was found dead at that institution recently. The sum of $1,683.55 has been subscribed by the citizens and business men of Gallipolis, to aid in paying the expenses of the Soldier's Reunion which will be held in that city August 8th and 9th. The Gallipolis Tribune says: About six years ago, Mrs. Tod Miller, of Millersport, just below the Gallia county line in Lawrence county, was bitten by a rabid dog. Nothing serious resulted until last Wednesday, when she was taken with spasms and other unmistakable symptoms of hydrophobia. --- Her suffering is described as being terrible.
