    3. I found the obit and it was listed Winfield , WV, I just think that Jean maybe didn't see the WV. The other thing is that so many people from this area already knew that Winfield was down the Kanawha from Gallipolis. Her ancestor was a riverboat captain so, it is natural for the editor or reporter to just say Winfield especially when talking about the river. River traffic in those days was packets that went from Gallipolis to Winfield then on to Charleston and returned. It was very logical for people to only use the name of the town and not add the state, it was in their backyard so to speak. I would guess that Winfield is in Ohio.
