Hello all - I've posted here before, but not in several years. Thought I'd try again. I'm looking for any information on Cook and Angel families in Gallia Co. before 1850. My ggg-grandfather was James Cook (b. abt 1807, supposedly in NC) who married Mary Angel (b. 1812) in Gallia Co. in 1831. I don't have any info on either of their parents. No Cooks are listed in the 1830 Gallia census. James and Mary appear to have lived in Mason Co. VA (WVA) in the 1840 census, and then they moved to Hamilton Co. IL. I have wondered if James's father might not be the Cornelius Cook listed in the Gallia Co. census in 1820 - he has a son the right age, and there are Angel families nearby. However, I can find no information about this Cornelius Cook. There is a Cornelius Cook descended from the Germanna colony Cooks that some folks have suggested I look into, but the Germanna Cornelius Cook appears to be the one who moved to Shelby Co. IN in the 1820's, and does not match the Cornelius Cook in 1820 Gallia. Others have noted a Cornelius Cook marrying a Suckey Crim in Stokes, NC in 1812. This seems to be the Cornelius Cook who moved to Wayne Co. IN in the 1830's, and also does not match the 1820 Gallia Cornelius Cook. Who would have thought there were so many Cornelius Cooks? Another possibility is the Samuel Cook listed in Gallipolis in the 1840 census. He seems to be the same Samuel Cook listed in Mason Co. VA in 1820 and 1830, but he doesn't seem to have a son who matches my James Cook. Does anyone have any info regarding any of these Cooks?? Is there a list of wills/probate files for Gallia Co? I'd be interested in any COOKs prior to 1850 or so. Similarly, I have no idea who Mary Angel's parents might be, although Berry Angel appears to have a daughter about the right age. Does anyone know anything about the children of Berry Angel, or any of the other Angels in Gallia by the 1830's? Any help appreciated.
