I did some looking up today at the society for John Cooper's wil. Here is what I have abstracted. Civil Journal 1 page 400 Oct 16, 1862 Alethea Cooper was the administrator of the will but she relinquished her right and Jacob D. White was named the administrator, Appraiser were given and the personal property of John Cooper ,deceased was appraised. In the will packet, we find evidence that Jacob D. White failed to administor the will and a new administrator was assigned by the court.. but the date skips from 1862 to 1886. It is evident by looking at the papers that the problem was a piece of land that needed to be divided evenly, The will itself does not state who should get what. The following people bring suit against the administrator. Rebecca White and husband Jacob D. White, Ellen Harrington and husband Frank Harrington, Sarah Friebaugh and husband Robert Friebaugh, Mary Friebaugh and husband Samuel Friebaugh. Clayton Cooper, Merton Cooper, Lottie Betz (no husband mentioned) and the two minors, Alonzo and Melissa Cooper. Filed Mar. 16, 1886. Clayton has moved to Dakota Territory , and Mary Friebaugh is listed as living somewhere in WV. There are papers , without a date, that say Alonzo and Melissa, being minors under the age of 14 are appointed a guardian-- J. Floyd Chapman. No date on this filing, although I imagine that it is nearer to 1863 The suit over the land is for land, Section# 6, Town#4, Range #15, in the Ohio Co. Purchase. In another paper the administrator interviews people about the property and all are in agreement that the property should be sold privately and the profits to pay for funeral and expenses and then to be divide among the following: Rebecca White, Ellen Harrington, Alonzo Cooper, (now living with Ellen Harrington), Sarah Friebaugh,John C. Cooper, Merton Cooper, Lottie Betz, and Melissa Cooper, now living with Lottie Betz. I did not find a paper that expressed how much each person received. I also did not see where Aleathea received anything from the sale But the last date on the papers was May of 1886 . If you would like the file copied and sent to you please email me privately and I will see that you get it. trayne1837inc@yahoo.com It was asked that the info be put to the list. This is what I abstracted to give everyone an idea of what was in the will.
