Gallipolis Bulletin April 2, 1914 James Barker Dead. James McClelland Barker was born June 23, 1866, at Samples Landing, Ohio and departed the life at 10 a.m. Sunday , Marach 29, 1914, at the home of his sister , Mrs. Jessie Spurlock of Balden , Ohio , near the plaace of his birth and the community in which his boyhood and more mature life was spent. His career is endedat the age of 47 years, 9 months and 6 days and he leaves to mourn his departure one daughter, Gwendaline , one brother, John R. Barker, Gallipolis and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Spurlock and Mrs Mary Harrington of Bladen and Mrs. Louise Day of Crown City. Both parents, three sisters, three brothers, his wife, Willie Hanley Barker, daughter of Patrick Hanley of Apple Grove, W. Va. have joined the great throngof the redeemed and await him on the other shore. His last illness lasted for over three months and although it was of a weakening character, he bore his suffering with much fortitude though it was a weakening character. Mr. Barker was an unusually genial and kind disposition having a keen sense of humor which made him a favorite with his family and friends At his request his remains were laid to rest at the Brick Church cemeter, Apple Grove , WVa., the funeral service being held on Tuesday, "Jim " as we knew him , must now be but a memory to us. We part with him cherishing all the splendid attributes of his nature and spreading over him, the mantle of charity for any of the frailities common to mankind. His last hours were spent surrounded by his realtives and friends as he begun the newer relations with the great and good Father in Heaven, whose call must come to all of us when we will join the long roll of the redeemed.
