    3. I realize this is an error by the author of this newspaper article rather than the person who put it on the list, but I thought it should be made clear that the original Chautauqua Institute in western NY is alive and well rather than "the one-time site . . .." It's no big deal, but as a good western NYorker, I didn't want to lose any possible tourists who might think the original Chautauqua Institute is out of business. ;)Exporting the idea of Chautauqua is a great idea. The original Chautauqua Institute isn't a one-time event. It continues to be a place with hotels and cottages where you can stay and there are performances and lectures by nationally known musicians, speakers, and groups as well as workshops for attendees, recreational opportunities, and performances by "lesser lights" as well. It's a kind of old-fashioned retreat and is open all summer. Presidential candidates have used it to prepare for debates. So by all means, attend the Meigs Co. event and then . . . come on down! Herma The Daily Sentinel March 9,2005 By Beth Sergent The Meigs County Chamber of Commerce was introduced to Chautauqua at their "business minded" luncheon, held Tuesday at the Wild Horse Café. Chautaqua is a Native American word describing the shape of Lake Chautaqua in New York, the one-time site of educational lectures and theater.
