    3. Judi, Contact the ladies at the Gallia Co, Historical and Genealogical Society, 412 Second Ave., Gallipolis, Ohio 45631, (740)446-7200, histsoc@zoomnet.net. They can probably help you. They also will have the address of KYOHWVA genealogical society in Guyandotte, W. Va. (Huntington, Cabell Co.) Those records might also be at the Cabell Co., Court House in Huntington, W. Va. 3. Judi, In regard to naturalization records, this is a two step process that takes 5 years. You can file your declaration of intent after living in the United States for 2 years. A person then petitions for naturalization after 3 additional years. However, take note that in the early years wives and children were automatically granted citizenship with the man. Any U.S. female citizen that married a foreign national also lost their American citizenship. My husbands grandmother received citizenship due to her father in 1900, however, she made her own application after her marriage and the birth of her four children so that she would have her name, as a citizen, on paper. My Great Grandfather fought in the Civil War and was granted his citizenship due to that, the requirements on men who served in the military are varied by year. You can go to www.archives.gov and find out all of the information. I phoned the Great Falls, Montana Courthouse regarding my husband's Great Grandfather. He worked for the UP.SO. Railroad in the early 1900 in the Territory of Montana and as an Italian immigrant, the railroad required citizenship for employment. I requested, paid for a copy, and received a copy of his original papers. You may want to contact the Botetourt County Clerk and inquire as to any services they may have regarding these records. Check to make sure that the county was founded by that time. ----- Original Message ----- From: <JJwherebee@aol.com> To: <OHGALLIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 3:47 PM Subject: Re: [OHGALLIA-L] Question on records > Hi List, i have never looked for naturlization records or citizen ship > records. 3. Judi, many naturalization records are found in the Clerk of Courts office in Gallia County. There are a few interspered here and there in Probate Records. But many times when I've checked in the Clerk of Courts, I've been told they were filed in Cincinnati, Ohio.
