This is just some of the info. I have about the Blake/Daggett families. If you would like more or have more for me and you think it might be too detailed for this list, feel free to contact me at sallyjoq@yahoo.com At the age of 21, David Blake married Martha Daggett. She was 20. They were married Sept. 3, 1785. Apparently the newly wedded couple left immediately for the "west", as both of their grave markers bear the notation that they came to Ohio in 1785. It was not uncommon in those days for officers to bring their wives along on such posts, and this is presumably what David Blake did. It was at this fort that their first child (Sally Blake) was born on May 7, 1787. According to family tradition, she was the first white child born in what is now Marietta, Ohio. A year later, on April 7, 1788, the flat-boats carrying the colonists from New England who were to found the city of Marietta, arrived. Perhaps after the sale of the home at Campus Martius in 1809, he farmed until he moved to Gallia County in 1817 when, at the age of 53, he left Washington County and came to Gallia County, settling in Ohio Township. In 1819, he purchased a 100 acre "lot" being #588 in Secs. 25, 31, 32, 33 of Twp. #1, Rng. 14 of the Ohio Company purchase. This property is today owned by his descendants and reaches from the river, with its rich bottom to the hills along which the road (Route 7) runs. I am a descendant of Sally Blake and John Phelp's son, Benjamin Phelps. to Joanne: I think our records match pretty well. To Bob: re: Francis M. Blake. I don't have them in my data base. Do you know who his parents were? To Ginny: I don't have a James Blake in my data base either. To Doris: I don't have a MaryJane Blake or a William Roth. They married there in July 13, 1785 by Rev. John Ellis. His parents were: Moses Blake of Milton, MA and Sible Fuller of Rehoboth, MA. Martha was the daughter of Israel Daggett of Rehoboth and Frances Bowen. Israel is a descendant of Joseph Daggett, one of the original settlers of Martha's Vineyard who later settled in Rehoboth. Joseph was originally from England. From: Jokagal@aol.com Subject: Re: [OHGALLIA-L] Blake/Daggett Sorry--that is Martha Daggett--not Marha. Fingers don't work as fast as the brain today. Joanne Galvin From: Bob Espinosa <bob@espinosa-design.com> Subject: Re: Blake surname Hi: I don't know if anyone needs this info on the Blakes, but Francis M. Blake married Frances Romaine Womeldorff on 22 Mar 1857 in Gallia. They had Daniel, Jennie, Millie, Nellie, Arius, Ellen and Eugenia. I am related to Frances, she being my GGG Aunt. I have a bit more on the Blake children and quite a bit on the Womeldorff family. Bob From: LethaH@aol.com Subject: Re: OHGALLIA-D Digest V05 #109 I have a James Blake who married one of Sam Bing's girls and I don't know who he connects too either. Anyone else know? Ginny From: Jokagal@aol.com Subject: Correction on Daggett It was JOHN Daggett, original settler in Martha's Vineyard. (I think I need some sleep!) Sorry for the misinformation. Joanne Galvin From: cheryl enyart trayne1837inc@yahoo.com Subject: Re: [OHGALLIA-L] Re: Blake surname Joanne, You might want to try to find some of the early records in Washington County. Gallia County was a part of Washington until it became a county in 1803. Joanne Galvin From: DSpeck1926@aol.com Subject: Re: [OHGALLIA-L] Re: Mary Blake/william Unrue Sorry my error, Mary Jane Blake married a William Rolph. But if you don't have Mary I guess that it doesn't matter any way. But I just wanted to set the record straight in case some one else sees this query.
