    1. Food and alcohol problems in 1889 OH
    2. In a message dated 3/15/2005 4:00:55 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, OHGALLIA-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: The Gallipolis Journal tells about a fat man in that city who tried to reduce his flesh by fasting, but whenenever (sic) he would skip a meal he would eat more than twice as much at the next, meanwhile growing fatter. Then he stopped drinking to try and dry up, but poor success followed. Now the Journal wants him to work more as a last resort. In a way, it is rather gratifying to know that these problems existed then, too! One tends to think of obesity, at least, as a modern problem. I'm sure the extent of it now, is, indeed! Can you imagine in the current newspapers printed such a matter? They never would, because these problems are so common now!
