[This article was transcribed without making changes to spelling or grammar.] Athens Messenger September 8, 1887 GALLIA The Gallia County Fair will be held Sept. 13th, 14th and 15th. A broken rail caused four cars to tumble from the trestle on the Columbus, Hocking Valley & Toledo railroad near Gallipolis last Saturday morning. The cars were badly broken up. Moses Baker, of Gallia county, is under bonds of $100 to appear before Common Pleas Court to answer to a charge of whipping his daughter, aged seventeen. The girl had a beau Moses did not like, but instead of threshing him he threshed the girl. The Gallipolis Journal says this: A Gallipolis gentleman going home discovered an infant's napkin hung in a conspicuous place to dry. Complaing (sic) to his wife for this want of propriety, he was silenced with the reply: "Hush up! this is the flag of our union." Transcribed by Joyce Robinson
