Thanks. Someone else answered off list, too. Apparently he does show up twice as executor/witness to other people's wills. I'm starting to wonder if he didn't move out of the area. I'm not finding any sign of his death in Gallia County, and we don't find his children in the later census records. Pam, I had an uncle that was a JP and his named appeared along with a lot of people's wills as sureities and appasier, so Sanford probable did the same in his area of the county. What's weird, though, is that no will is listed for him. That's why I'm wondering if he may have left the area. Only one of his children appear in the census there in 1850. He is in the 1840 census, but seems to have dropped off the face of the earth after that. I know he was married just after the census was taken, but I can't even find his widow anywhere. He may have died before 1850. We did find some of his children, living other places with relatives. But I would really like to know what actually happened to him.
