While at the library today I found an obit for a Mrs. J. S. McCall. Her reall name was never given nor her parents but her children's names were given. Her maiden name must have been Northup because, she had a brother Theodore Northup. I did not record the date but I believe it to be in 1922 Mrs. M'Call Was Burned to Death At Her Home In Harrison Tp. On Saturday Morning Mrs. J. S. McCall, aged nearly 7O years, a resident at the Clay Lick neighborhood in Harrison township, was burned to death at her home Saturday morning, March 18. 1916, between eight and nine o'clock. � Mrs. McCall, who was alone in the house at the time, stood on a chair to wind the clock, which stood on a mantel shelf above an open first* fire. The draft of the Are drew her aprov into flamei and in a moment her clcith-was abl�7*. She ran to the front door of the house. where her screams attracted the attention of Rev. John L. Porter, who passing. Mr, Porter called to her to lie down in the snow and he ran to her aid. Her son Claude, who reaides at home, also ran to her side, and the two men fought the flames as best they could. Her clothes was burned entirely away and the hands and faces of Rev, Porter and Mr.McCall were quite badly burned. Mrs. McCall was fatally burned and in a short time passed away. She is survived by three sons. Otto, Cyrus and Claude McCall, a daughter, Mrs. Nelson of near Patriot and a brother , Theodore Northup of Gallipolis, The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, Interment in the family cemetery. Mrs. McCall was a flne woman with many friends. Her husband paasing away about isix years ago being, found dead in his barn.
