I will be driving right past that cemetery location May 26th. If you tell me exactly what you need I can photograph the stones digitally and send them to you thru an attachment. I would be driving north from Gallipolis/Vinton. Just let me know. I may need a few more landmarks for location. The victims, George McElhose , first engineer, of Detroit Mich.; and George Litman, second engineer of Orlando,Fla. , were killed by escaping steam when a throttle valve blew out as they sought to get up steam with which to move the Senator Cordill from the Enterprise dock here where it had been tied up for repairs for the last six weeks. Roy Roe , Gallipolis, a boilermaker and the third man in the engine room at the time of the accident, was badly burned about the body and internally as the result of inhaling escaping steam. His condition was pronounced as critical at the hospital today. The cause of the accident was fixed by a coroner J M Fadley a short time after the accident. The boat had been inspected a few hours previous by G G Thomas, federal steamboat inspector. Officers of the boat advanced the opinion that the throttle valve was blown out as a result of the live steam coming into contact with cold, condensed steam used in the inspection which had not been removed before the steam was turned on. Boat officers emphasizied there was no explosion. Robert Hesop, manager of the Point Pleasant Machine works and John Burnett,, an engineer employed by him , left the boiler room a few minutes before the mishap. No other damage was caused to the boat which was preparing to make a trip to Pittsburgh when the steam throttle blew out. The packett, Senator Cordill , is in the Charleston and Pittsburgh trade. A year ago the steamer ran aground in the Kanawha river just above the South Charleston bridge , and remained there several weeks before being floated. ____________________________________________________________________________ ________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Thanks so much for your offer, I di appreciate it, but I will also be past there that weekend and I will check it out. It was a baby and I rather doubt if there is a stone, but doesn't hurt to look. Elsie Lynn Anders <lynnanders@alltel.net> wrote: I will be driving right past that cemetery location May 26th. If you tell me exactly what you need I can photograph the stones digitally and send them to you thru an attachment. I would be driving north from Gallipolis/Vinton. Just let me know. I may need a few more landmarks for location.
