Charlie, that negative scanner is very limited. You can only do strips. I have an Epson /Epson Perfection 4180 Photo. It does slides , negatives of all sizes.. and I can take a large negative scan it into two pieces and then stitch it back together. If you look on galliagenealogy.org you will see the black and white negatives that were my fathers. I took those from negatives to pictures. I have not had any trouble with this scanner. It was bought on sale at Staples. I paid just a little over $125 for it . It is a flat bed. I had to learn of course how to manipulate the resolution and the types of scanning.. but it is a wonderful tool . I can also use it as a copier, because of the one feature. I have been taking my negatives to the local Target.? Most recenbtly, the printed about 72 photos and provided a CD of the images for about $11.? Considering the time it takes to scan negatives at home, I found the price to be very reasonable. -----Original Message----- From: Charlie Hazlett <charlie@hazlett.net> To: ohgallia@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, 21 May 2008 7:40 pm Subject: [OHGALLIA] Slide Scanner A while back there was a discussion on scanning slide and film negatives into digital format. Dear Karen: Just now, I spent the last 1/2 hour going page by page through the 1830 Census Records, for Cheshire, Gallia County, Ohio AND Addison, Gallia County Ohio and found only 1 Joseph Darst at the listed age that we have for him. According to the census records though, they had more children than just Fannie and Elizabeth AND they are listed as not having twin girls, but rather a few years apart. Who determined that they had twins anyway? Sometimes, we [I know I'm guilty of it] just copied from the Ancestry.Com and don't really know where the info even came from. I'll have to check the 1840 census and see what I find there. Maybe one of the boys, [4 are listed as living with Joseph Durst] in the 1830 Cheshire census, helped to raise the younger ones with their own wives. The wife [Joseph Durst's wife] was listed as being around the same age range as husband. He didn't remarry though until 1842 so that information may be incorrect or else he raised those girls for quite awhile by himself. SORRY -- I have some Rife information. Also I think the Fanny was actually Veronica named for her grandmother. Gma' Frany Overholtzer Darst died in 1842. Wonder if Joseph lived with his folks after Hattie (Harriet) died and when mom died he realized just how much work it was and remarried -- speculation time only :) ----- Original Message ----- From: Teresa M. Well, I just sent this message, but in the wrong mode. Anyway, since we're discussing Nathan and Elizabeth Rife, does anyone have a copy of the death certificate for Elizabeth Darst Rife? According the death certificate for Elizabeth's twin, Fannie Darst Rife (listed on Family Search Labs as Tannie), their mother was Hattie Trimble. I haven't been able to locate any information on Hattie. Nathan and Elizabeth's daughter, Cora Elizabeth, was my great-grandmother. Wilma Thaxton
