Hi Kathy, Joseph Rife and Margaret Carpenter were my 4th great grandparents. Their daughter Ester who married Jonas McCarty isn't my direct line but I have some tombstone pictures and obits for them. If you don't hear from someone in that line, I'll be happy to send you what I have. I also have a picture of Joseph Rife's millstone and the plaque telling about it. It won't matter about the still birth. The court will certify the one-liner across two pages for you. The health dept. has a much more thorough birth certificate. Possibly will give parents and places of their births. Might give how many other children were born. Address and that kind of thing. Thanks, Sandi!! Still don't know if I'll ever find the answer. David's obit said he was from Augusta Co., VA, so I decided to check Chalkey's. I think I found Frederick but not David. Frederick appears to be the son of Frederick. There is a will for old Frederick and young Frederick is a minor, and that fits with the ages. Also, named in the will is Betsy Steele, wife of William Steele. Interestingly, she is named in Hardesty's and it states they (Steeles) came here in 1815. This would make young Frederick and Betsy Steele siblings. Still doesn't help me prove that David was young Frederick's son....but who knows? May find it one day. Henny

Henny, ???? The fact that Frederick is buried very near David should have some meaning/ Maybe Frederick "sold" the land to David so David wouldn't have to pay inheritance taxes on it/ I believe James McGhee "sold" land to his grandsons George W. Shack and Asher Hamilton/? A lot of people were land rich and cash poor-then and now/? I agree that is not much proof there/ Debbie -----Original Message----- From: Henny Evans <hcevans1775@sbcglobal.net> To: ohgallia@rootsweb.com Sent: Sat, 31 May 2008 12:26 pm Subject: Re: [OHGALLIA] Hangers Debbie, that's exactly the one I"m interested in! Thanks. Now, what I need is to be able to prove that David is Frederick's son. I know Frederick lives with David in 1860 and I know he sells him land. But it's not for a $1.00 and love and affection but hundreds of dollars so no clue that he's father and son. There's no probate for Frederick to name David and as I don't know his death date, no obit. David's obit does not name his parents. So, I'd love to know your proof...that would be perfect.
