    3. Flotilla, is just a large group of boats usually in single file, like a momma duck and her flotilla of baby ducks.... one following another in a line. 3. I have found the information on the Prose family and I'm not sure it will help you, Denise. It is about Jehu Washington Prose born in Gallia County 20 April 1810. This is a family history that was sent to my mother-in-law but it has no documentation on any of the information. It sounds as if Jehu Washington Prose was illegitimate as its says" His mother Eve Prose was a sister to Daniel Prose who adopted him and raised him to manhood. His mother, afterward married a Mr. Smith and they had 4 children (and it names the children) in Illinois." If anyone on the list would like to see the information I can send it to you but as I said, it is not documentation. It is five pages but very little information on Gallia County. It might be some help to someone and point you in the right direction to search for this family. Marjorie L. Wood ----- Original Message ----- From: "Denise Ashleman" <saultz@bellsouth.net> To: <OHGALLIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2005 9:21 PM Subject: [OHGALLIA-L] Norman Campbell > I just now read my mail, some of my questions have been answered. Back to genealogy, > I received a response from the Athens Hospital inquiry and they could not locate Norman Campbell in their list of graves. The graves are numbered and correspond with files. It was conveyed that many patients were returned to their respective homes to be buried. Has anyone ever run across a Norman Campbell, born 1856, died (approx.) 1880 (Wilsena Prose) in any cemetery in Gallia County? Wilsena was listed as married, not widowed on the 1880 census and married William Shaw in 1881. I am hoping that he died in this time frame due to the lack of a actual date of death. Norman had 4 children, John E., Phoebe (Malone), Mida Belle (Carter) and Sarah Ann (? another time), so I would hope that he was buried in Gallia County. He may have been buried in a Prose family plot, young widow with four children? Does this name look familiar to any Prose researcher? Thank you for any assistance, next I check their old back yard. > > Denise > > > ==== OHGALLIA Mailing List ==== > If you want to unsubscribe to the list, send an email to OHGALLIA-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com with the word unsubscribe in the text of the email. > > > > > _____________________________________________________ > This message scanned for viruses by CoreComm >

    3. I agree.....there are times when I visit the Ohio Historical Society and get involved with the micorfilmed newspapers and it is hard to pull myself away. One item I particularly remember is an item from around 1850 or so mentioning that a deer had been shot in Gallia County. That items shows how the deer population, even as early as that, was so sparse that it merited a mention in the newspaper. Of course seeing names I am familiar with is always a treat..... If a bill now before Congress is passed, Gallipolis will be entitled to a public building for post-office purposes. The Directors of the Gallia Agricultural Association met, one day last week, and arranged the premium list for the next Fair. A handsome gold charm, the badge of the American League of Wheelmen, valued at $50, will be offered as a premium for the best bicycling. One day last week Capt. He was 68 years old. About four years since Mr. Adam Ruble, of Cheshire, had some money stolen from his home, and could never obtain any trace of it. One of the coins taken was an old copper cent, coined the year he was born, and worn by him as a charm for a long time. A week or two ago the same piece was taken in over Mr. Ruble's counter, but during his temporary absence from the store. He registered the money by certain marks he had put on it years since, and thinks it has never been far from home during the time intervening since it was stolen.

    3. I just wanted to let everyone know that the Gallia County Genealogical Society had their monthly meeting and many new and fresh ideas were discussed. The plans for the "Gene Fest" are moving along with many exciting workshops planned. If you would like more on this and plan to attend please contact me privately or contact the office. We are also finalizing the plans for the First Family and Civil War Family Banquet in October. This is going to be a great event this year with more new and exciting things to do while in Gallia County for the banquet. If you are interesting in attending this and would like more information, please contact me privately or the office. Remember, you do not have to have an ancestor to attend this banquet it is a banquet to celebrate these ancestors. There will be much more on both these activities as the time approaches. The Gallia County Historical & Genealogical Society is also working together on getting some new publications for purchase and those of you interested in CD's well, they are coming in the near future! Contact the society office at 412 Second Avenue or at 740-446-7200 for more information. The Gallia County Historical and Genealogical Society is a very exciting place to be so plan to stop in and visit, research or help with some of the wonderful projects we have. Marjorie L. 3. Denise, Try the Ross and Vinton County lists too. There are a lot of Drummonds in both those counties. I have a number of Drummond Tombstone photos from the Concord and Londonderry Cemeteries of Ross County. Perhaps the family started moving westward.
